I am a parent of 4 (3 little boys), allow me to be the voice of reason. Are you out of your mind thinking about buying new gen iPads for a 5 year old? We have 2 iPad Air 2s (so they have lasted from 2017-2022 with zero problems. And they have allll the apps and games.) well, we HAD 2 iPad Air 2s until my 4.5 year old thought it would be a good idea to toss one over the balcony onto the couch, but missed. Screen shattered, $200 to replace screen so I bought one of these instead. Get the cheap iPad, get the AppleCare, by the time you need a new one you'll be able to get 17th gen iPads for $250 too

There's an extended return policy right now, so you have until January 31. And there's a good chance you have free returns—check the product page. Buy this, keep it unopened until the end of next month or whenever new iPads are introduced, and then make the call.

Looks like a good deal but I'm on the fence for this one.

Main usage would be for my 5yo for his little kindergarten apps and the emergency Youtube vid for meltdowns. Plus as a baby monitor when needed.

I know new iPads are imminent but I wouldn't need the latest and the greatest and extra year of future proofing for that would I? 🤔

Just to frame things- I still use my 2017 iPad and it's quick as can be. My original 2014 iPad Air is also just fine and still supported.

Thanks for your input. I'd like to challenge that though. This would be potentially replacing a 1st gen iPad Air (MD789LL/A) and this ipad is barely supported running off of ipadOS 12.5.6. Now that I think about it, most of the apps that we run on it are on legacy software versions -- so I may end up just getting this deal. My bad, should've prefaced and mentioned this in OP though.

No problem- just saying getting 1 generation newer in Apple world isn't doing much to future proof things. Their devices are typically supported for very long periods. I suspect the newer models will be supported even longer due to the overpowered processors they're using these days.

The problem is, when the new iPads come out they will not be anywhere near this price. So if your hoping for a 2022 model iPad for under 300 keep dreaming. Normally this model is 330 and on a good day it might be 300 so this is the cheapest I've seen this type of iPad be sold for in quite a while.
