Great price for a great machine. Bought this on sale over a year ago at around $400. Given that prices are going up instead of down, this deal seems really great.

I've had one for 18 months and love it. Just remember a grinder worth anything will cost at least the same amount.

After watching a ton of espresso videos (and realizing what the importance of a good grinder per your comment), I realized one buys these machines not so much to save money but to more enjoy the process. If one normally bought McCafes (McDonald's uses really high end machines) the payback is 3-5+ yrs going with the make-your-own approach.

Semi-Automatic in the sense it controls length of the shot or just "automatically" sets the steam and water temp?

There are quality handgrinders that will do the job for less than $100 (Kingrinder K1, K2 [amazon.com], K3 [amazon.com], K4 [amazon.com]); it only takes 35 seconds of grinding to prepare a double shot. The Urbanic 070s [amazon.com] 60mm flat burr electric grinder is capable [youtube.com] and $203.

The average price of a McCafe cappuccino/latte at is about $2.35. The ingredients to make your own are about $0.80. One per day would add up to $550 per year.

This has been a pretty common price point for this machine lately. I believe Amazon had them on sale for about the same price a couple months ago.

McDonald uses high end machine but shitty coffee beans and don't clean them. The problem with this machine is that you need to adjust the pump pressure yourself, and the pressure is not as consistent as the higher end machine. However, it would still beat McDonald's coffee since you are using better beans and grind quality.

Cost wise, I drink 2 espresso shots per day if I do drink it.
So, that's about $500 saving per year. Smilie

length of the shot is controlled by the grind size.
It set the "steam" - pressure and water temp.
