Don't think 'Dremel projects' with this thing. Think 'carving a family of owls into a tree stump' here. With the right burr, this can remove a ton of material quickly.
This thing is a big tool for bigger jobs. Jobs that a dremel can't handle

If I don't need the accuracy of a Dremel, would this be sufficient?

This die grinder replaces pneumatic ones. It's used to deburr automotive parts etc.
There are battery powered Dremels (or Dremel like tools from other manufacturers) but they don't run off 18V batteries but 12V or they have a built-in battery.

Does DeWalt make a smaller rotary tool? I've seen a Ryobi 18V and I think a Milwaukee 12V (and Dremel) but haven't found an equivalent that would use the batteries I already own.

I've never even seen this thing not even in store. Holy cow. And it is a day going funny people like is this a Dremel. Not just for automotive it's also for welders and more. I like that it's no longer pneumatic finally.

...Dewalt currently has several battery types: 8V, 12V, 20V Max and 60V. In any case, a quick lmgtfy reveals the DCG426 is their only cordless offering: https://www.dewalt.com/products/p...t-grinders

Dremel and Ryobi, and maybe other brands, refer to smaller grinders with a 1/8" collett as a "rotary tool" rather than a "die grinder." I simply wondered if DeWalt made anything comparable. But if you must be snide, you at least should not imply the 60V platform is a serious possibility for such a tool.

I considered this but realized that it may not be so practical (for my use). Compared to pneumatic, this seems to add a lot more weight and bulk that will probably make tight working areas difficult or fatiguing. For this particular item the packaging seemed to have gone backwards.

I have the Dewalt angle grinder, love that for quick cutting and grinding.

I use this die grinder far more than I thought I would. I like it better than my Fordom cable drive grinder (a dentist-like tool on steroids). I use it with an assortment carbide cutters and mandralls with cartridge rolls. Makes quick work of annoying small tasks. My only criticism is that it does not have a quick change tool holder. In fact it doesn't even have a button to hold the shaft while changing bits and requires the use of two wrenches.
