I'm a bicycle messenger for GrubHub and other companies here in San Francisco and I just wanted to tell everybody to not tip on the app when ordering delivery for two reasons.
1: you might get a whole different order or your order might be missing something.
2: GrubHub uses your tips for my pay which is totally legal considering I'm a contractor. So let's say GrubHub pays me $10 per delivery. If for example you tip $8 on the app, GrubHub will only give me $2 to make up for the $10 they promised me the very beginning. Door dash is the same way.
I don't think this is true anymore. I'm not a gig driver but DoorDash got in trouble a few years ago for this, and there was also a class action lawsuit.
But GH/DD both say 100% of tips go to the driver and should be on top of the delivery fee.
I obviously can't speak to your experience, but if what you are saying is true, you should alert the media -- its a bigger deal than just posting on SlickDeals.

TIP IN CASH OR DON'T TIP AT ALL
Thanks for letting us know, i will continue not tipping witha peace of mind now. Jk!
But many of us don't have cash around, or have tjen just deop off behind our dooors, which sucks now that i know, but we should for this reason carry cash and meet them, at least i will try.

The fact that you're meeting these people in person is already much appreciated but yeah, my main reason for sharing about tipping is for GrubHub customers to save their money and not tip at all
It didn't work on seamless.com, but worked at grubhub.com. They've generally unified their backend, so your log in should work on both sites, and gift cards should work on both sites.

Well I feel like a sucker for tipping, are you sure this applies all over ca at least?I thought they had a law passed or some thing to deal with exactly this kind of thing? Is that the reason why most people don't tip? A rep told me that most people didn't tip....&in CA , they add a separate two to three dollar fee For delivery drivers benefits…per order, So they're actually getting like 12 dollars per delivery? So shouldn't we calculate that extra fee as part of the tip total? Isn't 20% of the subtotal adequate tip for delivery? Above a certain minimum. And GrubHub Plus charges about double what Doordash charges for service fee. Forget how Uber compares?

the more you tip the less chance there is of us spitting in your food
So how much is a good tip for you? How much per hour do you deserve to make? When do you start spitting? If you hate your job and People so much why don't you do something else? most bags are sealed

Why is #1 do you mind explain a little further? Thanks!
Why? Doordash is 🗑️ and the restaurant has a good point
They don't have to be on that platform yet there they are because they want the customers it will bring, not only do they mark up their prices and complain stating the obvious but lie on top saying DoorDash takes 50% of the money. If you don't like Doordash, you don't have to do business with them, period.

I don't do GrubHub, but I can speak for UberEats and DD.
>DD pays me $2-2.50 per order plus whatever you tip. Single order $2.50 (multiple orders at same time $2+ tips)
>UE pays $1.50-$3 plus tip. Single order $3($1.50 for an add-on)
They both will pay more if drivers refuse those orders. I for example will only accept order >=$6.50
So, what this means is either the customer chips in $4 or the delivery companies do. And personally if you want to get your food faster, I'd say tip in the app. How much you tip is your prerogative.

I think a NYT investigation uncovered DD pocketing driver tips.
