The same can be said about classic cars, HiFi audio equipment, road bikes, guns, liquors, or anything else certain communities are appreciative of. There is always a group of people that like things for a particular set of features, craftsmanship, or specific emotions they bring.

$3200 is pretentious? On a brand most people outside the Watch community have likely never heard of? Ok.

Also, you seem fun.

Pretentious is thread crapping on items you don't understand as a way of making yourself feel superior for being cheap.

This is the kind of watch rich people wear when traveling. If their assets get seized or frozen, they can pawn it.

Really cheap considering this watch had a wait list at most ADs pre-recession. But if this is ur first time getting a real watch, get it from an AD for the experience.
the AD experience?

if i wanted to watch my wife get railed by another guy, I'd take her to a swingers party.

What I don't understand is the functionality of the bezel. What exactly is the purpose of the rotating bezel on this watch. It's not like it can calculate time & distance or pressure altitude. Looks pretty pointless.
IThe purpose of a rotating bezel is to warn divers when their oxygen is running low. As most scuba tanks run out of oxygen in around 60 minutes, rotating bezels are split into 60 sections with each section representing one minute.

Ok... so why is this watch worth $3,250?

I can understand cars and audio equipment... Bill gates for example wears a $50 Casio, but drives a Porsche. The car does what other cars can't and looks amazing. This makes sense to me.
Except ur wrong. About the Porsche

people who think this is a pretentious purchase know nothing about watches and ironically are quite pretentious in presuming this is overpriced.

at the same time if you know nothing about watches, it's probably not a good purchase for you

I was in the same boat. GS is def worth a look if you're considering a watch at this price point or a little above. I bought a GS GMT spring drive last year and just bought a Tudor Pelagos LHD this past week. They are both great watches for different reasons. I think GS is going to keep getting more popular and well known. The fit and finish is fantastic and the spring drive is unique and keeps perfect time...I also considered a Rolex sport watch but in my business I'd rather not wear such a well known in your face luxury type of watch (plus they are still hard to find and overpriced at the moment).
Do you think the GS hi-beat movement is worth it? I'm also considering a dive watch with a Hi-beat movement to complete my GS collection.

Or like a purse I guess.
You may be the first person I've read who believes a purse is similar to a watch. Or even a purse is jewelry. I don't think a purse is considered a watch or jewelry.

This is one of the best diver watches around - the BB58 is has achieved a cult status and stepped out of the shadow of its Rolex cousin. This is a very good price point for the watch but I wouldn't buy a BB58 off Joma shop

I don't believe they are similar. I believe that some of the reasons for buying them might be similar (although if I had a chunk of money, I would think a Rolex would be a better investment than just about any purse). At some (price) point, a watch isn't about telling time anymore no different than at some point a purse isn't about it being a place to hold a wallet and lipstick.

And in some ways, it isn't. I don't think people would buy a purse and tell themselves that they would be leaving it to their kids.

And a Rolex seems to cut across all age groups in a way fancy sneakers/shoes or a high end purse doesn't. You see a cyclops on a watch and I know I immediately look to see what i'm looking at.

Totally and I love the black one!! I'm sticking to my Seiko Prospex Samurai. Classic, sturdy, and it keeps time just as well as these Tudors (at 10x le$$)... and there's less chance I'll get assaulted and robbed of my watch when I'm walking out and about...in our lovely U.S.and A.
You'd be very lucky if that Seiko kept time anywhere near as well as this Tudor.

I would be hesitant to purchase any higher-end watch right now. We are seeing an absolute implosion in the used watch market, led by Rolex. There are a series of reasons, but it is largely driven by crypto-bros and the Asian market disasters.

I like Tudors a lot (and have owned one in the past) but we are already seeing basic Datejust fall below $3,500 and my guess is standard Submariners are headed below $5k in the next six months. Better to wait for one of those or when used Tudors hit $1k
