It's so simple it makes you wonder why you don't just buy some unflavored pea protein for half the price per pound and flavor it yourself

I am genuinely interested to know more about this. What do you personally use to flavor it?

Fruit or fruit juice, chocolate or cocoa powder, vanilla, a little bit of sugar, stuff like that. I usually just add unflavored protein powder to a regular smoothie or a bowl of oatmeal or whatever I was already going to eat, unless it would make it totally gross. I use whey protein, though. Also I've never really been one to care that much about the taste of my protein shakes. I just chug it and move on. It wouldn't bother me that much even if i was just drinking plain protein with water.

great idea. i'm all over this. i don't care what the protein powder tastes like as I mix it along with fruit, chia seeds, greek yogurt, macha powder and kale for morning smoothie.

I had the same thought after trying it for the first time last week. It is pretty tasty, though, if you want the convenience. Pea protein seems much much cheaper, though.

"It's what's (not) inside that counts." Get out of here with these "natural flavors" seriously vague, unclear, and a bit sketchy.

Is there a particular brand you recommend? I like this idea a lot!

For what it's worth, that's a pretty significant difference. Unflavored whey protein has a very mild flavor and mixes incredibly well. I drink it all the time.
From my experience plant-based proteins don't mix nearly as well and have a stronger and less pleasant flavor. I'll still down unflavored soy or pea protein in water, but it's much less pleasant than whey. And don't ever mix plant-based protein with dairy unless you just really want to challenge. It's super gross.

All that said, if anyone has any sources on good, cheap pea protein I would also be interested. I like having plant-based protein. It's just a very different beast than whey.

Measuring protein powder by servings is bogus. Give me the weight.
