So, I needed to replace a very old Receiver and was able to get the Onkyo Tx-Rz50 w/ Dirac Room Calibration for $1299 (MSRP is now $1599!). I find Dirac to be fantastic for my use case.

This is a call in only special and only for what limited "in stock units" they have at the special $1299 price, after that they are $1599. Hate that the companies like Denon, Onkyo , etc keep raising prices on the higher end receivers. Thought I would share this for anyone who is looking to pick up a real good Rz50 at a good price point.

Call Jeff directly at Av Science(Authorized dealer w/ a good reputation) at (303) 919-5775 & make sure to tell him you want the "Call in Special for $1299" on the Onkyo RZ50 receiver.

Cost is $1299 + Free Shipping and No tax for most(but that is YMMV) also they do not charge your CC until they ship it out and of course you get the full 3 year factory warranty on the Rz-50.

Hope this can save at least a few people on here some $$$ on this receiver until they sell out. As a side note, I have purchased a few things from Jeff(Av Science) over the past year and always great prices and very professional.

**************UPDATE----- STILL LIVE AS OF 3/3/23 for $1299(Onkyo Dealer Special sale Call in valid until 3/31) (5) in stock!!

Has Onkyo/Pioneer raised MSRPs on their receivers recently? I got a VSX-LX305 from Woot a few months ago for $839, and I thought the MSRP was $1199. Now MSRP appears to be $1399, making the Woot deal even hotter.

Agree how crazy mid-high end receiver prices have gotten. This one's too much beast for me (even the 305 is overkill for me but couldn't pass up the price), but could be a good deal for those that need it.

Yup they jacked them up like 6-8 weeks ago following the 3 price increases be Denon in the past 10 months! Denon has been the biggest offender of jacking up prices so all of them will eventually jump on board just like the airlines always do.

I have 4 Onkyo receivers and no issues with any. With that having being said. What is the purpose of a warranty for a company that doesn't exist anymore. Onkyo went out of business three years ago. Pioneer bought them but never released any new models with the Onkyo branding.
Onkyo , Pioneer, Integra were all purchased by Audiovox last year and all the other brands that were under there ownership, so Onkyo and Pioneer are def in business. Audiovox owns a ton of companies now, one of which is Klipsch, etc..

What's the newest model number of Onkyo and what year was it made? Just a question.

The Rz-50 is the newest and it is a 2021 model and there was supposed to be the higher end RZ70 and RZ90 but with supply chain issues and a HUGE back order on the Rz-50 they decided to push the other two back as they did not have parts from what I read. Most people could not even get a RZ-50 all of last year and up until July this year. Also, Pioneer was also going to have a higher end receiver released but not sure if that was delayed, also keep in mind that integra receivers are also a part of this group.

Onkyo stopped making projects in 2021, actually 2020 though the RZ-50 was labeled 2021.

Whoever owns them is still honoring their three year new warranty. There was just a thread on the r/onkyo subreddit where someone had some audio issue on the center channel after a year, he contacted them, they walked them through troubleshooting, and are now replacing it.

I have the RZ50 and can confirm this receiver has quality control issues. My receiver has been in repair for 2 months. Customer service is a joke. You send it in to a repair service that is a local guy working out of a garage (or whatever is local to you). Can't recommend this for the price - go with a more reliable brand for a couple hundred more. Never Onkyo again.

UPDATE----- Picked up a Proj mount from Jeff just now and asked how many of these are left, there are (3) LEFT as of 12/8/22!!!! for $1325

There is another thread where this is $1600 minus a gift card on Newegg if people want to go that route but there is sales tax I believe as well.

Ordered mine from Jeff yesterday, said I got the last one but I had to pay sales tax being in Florida. Amazon recently had a vendor selling new for $1400 and was going to go that route instead since it was just $75 more and no hassle return but it has gone back up to $1600.

This receiver is getting so much rave reviews I hope it meets up to the hype as usually I am a Yamaha man and never paid beyond $350 for an AVR. I recently got a pair of Klipsch RP-280FA which I want to pair this receiver with in a 5.2.4 setup. Not only I'm usually a Yamaha fan but I've always tried to stay away from Onkyo with their bad reputation for overheating receivers and now their recent financial problems. In researching though the experts in this field are saying I shouldn't worry as Onkyo has been making some kick ass receivers recently at reasonable prices (at least in comparison to the other commercial big boys like Denon & Yamaha).

However, I wanted to buy from a vendor with a good return policy like Amazon just in case I wasn't impressed by the RZ-50 performance. Jeff reassured me that I have 30 days to return but wasn't too specific on details. I'm not a picky guy so I'm sure I'll love the receiver from all the reviews I've seen so far but anyone here who got this deal from AV Science or has this receiver already can tell me their experience so far?

I have the rz-50 and it's a real good unit. it was an even better unit when it was $1175 6 months ago before Onkyo increased the prices again. The receiver will do everything you need it to do and it's got all the bells and whistles. The Dirac is fantastic but it has a learning curve so make sure you take your time to learn how to use it properly , there are forums, videos on how to use it correctly. My room is all over the place with it being open on two sided, Dirac really got it right , much better then the Denon Room correction. As for AV science, they have a fantastic reputation for high end A/V. They have been around a while and if you go to any of the main Forums such as AVS you will see nothing but great reviews for them. I have never had an issue with anything purchased from them and they are authorized sellers of everything they sell. sux you had to pay tax as there was no tax to my state and my state always has tax!..lol.. Enjoy the Rz-50! oh and you have the 3 year warranty and hopefully you used a credit card that extended it another year....

6 months ago I was busy researching upgrading my tvs to oleds and qleds and thought I was quite fine with my entry level Atmos Yamaha receiver in my 5.2.2 setup in my living room. I had no idea the price of receivers have shot up so much while the price have high end tvs have collapsed.

Based on the thousands of dollars of savings I got from the TV purchases I figured why not upgrade my Klipsch towers to some larger Atmos equipped ones which also made me realize I now needed a receiver with more channels.

I've also never been impressed with the music quality of my setup while being mostly satisfied with the home theater side. My jaws dropped at the prices of the 9 plus channels Yamaha receivers being a fan boy and knew I was never going to pay $3K for a receiver. Luckily in my research I stumbled on the RZ-50 and this thread.

Thanks for your detailed response and your post has definitely put me at ease about my purchase. I used a cc that gives me 2 extra years of warranty making it a total of 5 years warranty. I'll take a look on AVS Forum to see what others are saying there so thanks for that suggestion too.

Those that are seriously considering calling Jeff, may want to read the review at ASR on this. While its not bad, there are some glaring technical problems. Reading can help insure the units problems wont be a problem for you (depends upon your use case).

Sure...Anytime, I am also a big Yammy fan boy when it comes to there receivers, it was all I used to run but like you , with the prices on the 9-11ch Yammy's it was WAY out of budget. I am also a large fan of Klipsch rp and higher line speakers, for the $$$ on sale , they are a bargain and sound fantastic! would strongly recommend you get the rp-504C or the rp-450C center as it made a immense difference to the "overall" sound setup in my system. I thought I had a real good center prior to but the 504/450 blew that away. Also, if you can, try and go 4 channel atmos, it really makes such a big difference in the atmospherics. going just 2 channels really does not do it the same justice. I know not possible for all room setups, etc, but I busted my ass to make sure I set up 4 channels in my ceiling and WOW. If anyone tells you 2 channels is just as good, etc, then never listen to them again! Funy, also like you, I have had a oled now for 5 years but only 65" and can never go back to anything else. Just picked up a new 83" oled and OMG!!! what a monster!! Fantastic.... $3K for it , I had been waiting about 2 years for it to hit that level and then was ablt tu use $3K in BB giftcards that did not cost me anything as they were from a very starnge sears credit card from citi bank that has had crazy 10-20% rewards points on just about everything I used it on.. Just nuts! On the 2 cards I have, in the past 2-3 years we have collected appox $4K-$5K back either in cash ot reward points, just nuts! Have no idea how citi keeps pumping these deals on it every 3 months to me, but it has been an incredible way to get a free 83" oled!
