These pliers are not specific to water pumps, but this style of pliers is referred to as 'water-pump pliers'. The wide clamp, the shape of the "V" section in the opposing jaws, and the many hardened teeth allow for gripping of round-stock such as pipes. This style is useful for many but essential for plumbers.

The picture clearly shows the tool says "Made in Germany". Don't go by the country of origin in the Amazon listing. It is almost always wrong.

And electricians too. I use them all the time for rigid metal conduit (threaded pipe which must be spun together).

Not sure. The adjustment is simpler mechanically? Maybe they handle water& messy environments better?

That's all I can think of.

Because that's what they're technically called. Can't call them channel locks because that's a brand name and if you call them slip-joint pliers that can mean a lot of different pliers such as this [homedepot.com] style.

I've have purchased about 15 knipex tools that Amazon says "made in China." They are definitely made in Germany. German brand. Most deals I've found ship from .uk or .de

I don't care for the adjustment style on these pliers. It's quick to adjust, but it's also quick to adjust itself when you set the tool down. The push button mechanism on the other style of knipex is far superior.

This is the cheaper style without a button that I don't prefer. They are the same price at home depot.

My favorite pliers are these in the short size. Comfort grip is excellent, utility of these is huge

Curious what the difference is exactly between Knipex that is pure red and Knipex that is red and blue? Is it a branding thing?
