I don't think Nintendo has ever based their pricing on competition and, quite frankly, the Steam Deck really isn't competition. No one is holding out on buying one because they have the other.
I mean only you can answer that question.
The Switch continues to be a twice a month "game night" powerhouse for my family and friends where we just stay in, order food and drinks and have a good time. Saving plenty of money vs. Going out to eat and then finding entertainment.
So from that aspect its a Slickdeal in itself.
Now if you are a non Nintendo IP gamer that is only interested in single player games and have no interest in portability, then there are better options for you.
I'd love a Switch successor that basically just improves and ups the capability of what Nintendo did with the device . . . But it's current form is still very capable with many high quality exclusives.
If that's your concern, then it's not worth it for you. Worth it if you want to play Nintendo first party games, that's what it really comes down to. If you don't like the joycons, then buy a converter and the console controller of your preference. I like to use a ps4 on the switch.

I don't think Nintendo will lower prices when steam deck is $400 and the screen doesn't even look as good as switch OLED. Besides they're selling really well, still.

The Switch came out in 2017. Is it still worth it almost five years later knowing it's entering its end of lifecycle?

What games do you guys play for the family "game night"?

I think the other consideration is the Covid years may extend the life of consoles due to the lack of supply. I know a lot of that time it was touch and go due to shortages. I think these iterations will last a bit longer and I base that solely on all the development and delays with the new games and the new Zelda coming out next year.

Currently: Smash, Kart, Mario Party Superstars, Luigi's Mansion DLC, Mario Strikers, Switch Sports, Just Dance 2022, Jackbox, marvel ultimate alliance, warioware have been the games in rotation.
We did some Splatoon 3 but that requires multiple switches so only do that with friends.

If I wanted a family non portable console, what would you recommend? I tried and failed with a retro pi😥
