And gas was $2.00 / gallon 2 years ago. What's your point?
That's a terrible analogy. Gas doesn't go on sale every few months like Sam's Club memberships do. Just wait for a better deal. There will be one soon enough.

Given this offer is through January, it could be a while. Sam's might want data on organic changes after the membership price increase or organic signups are higher due to BF and holidays.
I've enjoyed my last year at Sam's more than my local Costco. Regardless, I'm not worth the hour drive to either for me if I still gotta pay $50-60 for the membership

The point is that there are *regularly* promos to get Sam's memberships for free or close to free after store credit. Gas does not regularly (or *ever*, in recent history) dip down to $2 a gallon. Apples to oranges.

I jumped on this, only because I don't want to deal with the drama of chasing after whomever for those promos and perks that they supposedly "load" onto the card but that you never get...
Since this should be valid for existing accounts that have not been members in the last 6 months, how can I apply the code? I'm redirected to the "renew" page with no space to enter a promo

I bet if you cleared you browser's cookies for samsclub.com first, you'd see something different.
If you have a Bj's or Costco around, I don't really see the point of a Sams club membership. Customer service in club stinks (they won't price match online prices) and online customer service took several tries to get the sign up bonus that has been popular in the past. And the biggest thing is no free shipping unless you pay more for plus. Also, there coupon system is severely lacking compared to BJ's, which has way more coupons every month. If walmart plus provided free shipping for Sam's club then it would be more worth it for me, to use for those occasional good online deals I see offered. Sam's has shorter hours than BJ's as well.
Overall, I find BJ's and Costco to have extremely better customer service and more enjoyment shopping at those locations vs. Sam's.

I have two words for you: APPLE PIE.
It takes two people to carry home the pie from Sam's Club! My wife gave up baking because of it. And yes, we have a Costco membership, joined because of the Rotisserie Chicken and the Cinnamin Bread.
