It is well worth $1299!
The cpu runs cool. I have had Zypherous G14, Zypherous G15, Alienware X15 R2, and ASUS ROG Strix Advantage Edition.
Alienware X15 R2 was fantastic just the secondary F keys didn't light up. ALL laptops with i7 12700 run hot. This Alienware has 4 fans.
Zeph G14 keyboard did not light evenly.. the PCIe 4 drive ran at PCIe 3 speeds.
Zeph G15 Hot. PCIe 4 drive ran at PCIe 3 speeds and when I put a PCIe 4 drive in the extra slot, that extra drive was 71c just sitting there doing nothing. Bad laptop. Voltages on the board are not right I don't think, why it runs hot and the drive run hot.
Asus ROG Strix G513QY Advantage Edition, QHD model with 5980 cpu/6800m. Light blead on the screens.. hinges are tight.. PCIe 3 M.2 slot(s) and DDR 4 3200 ram.
I want to say that this ASUS Strix has PCIe 4 drive and it also runs at speeds of PCIe 3. BUT putting in a PCIe 4 drive in the extra slot ran at PCIe 4 speeds AND ran cool! So I'm more comfortable with this laptop as it looks exactly the same as the Advantage Edition and performs faster with the ram and drive.
ASUS is cutting corners.. be cautious when you buy an ASUS laptop.
Download and run Crystaldiskinfo ( for drive information )
also Crystaldiskmark (for drive speeds)
and if you buy an Asus lapto with ddr 4 ram 3200, Zen Timings ( to check out secondary ram timings .. if you got bad secondary timings ram)
Asus comment when I mentioned about the PCIe 3 speed PCIe 4 drive.. was they confirmed it was PCIe 4.
It is the cheapest slowest PCIe 4 drive in the Zeph's. A PCIe 3 drive that will work in PCIe 4 slot .
IF you pay for a laptop with specs shown you expect a laptop with specs shown. I can throw $75 for another 1tb PCIe 4 drive on this laptop to know it will run cool, and at full PCIe 4 speeds.. I'm not to bothered about that. BUT IF I do buy a PCIe 4 drive to replace a PCIe4 drive running at PCIe 3 sdpeeds and it over heats ( G15 ) then I can not upgrade that drive and that is a huge deal killer.. the community should be aware of.
I have closed my Best Buy credit card for all this experience I am sharing wth you.
I'm glad I walked to walmart and foundthis laptop for $ 1299.. No brainer. $1199-1299- 1250.. don't care much about that its a small payment.. what I want is something I can work with, will it run cool and to spec. This does. My game drive is installed and its WD SN850 and works fast. This boots up quick I don't know why it is faster then all the other laptops booting up. Alienware was an open box at $1389. Just didn't like the @##@%^ not lighting up.
I don't like a laptop that palmrest gets hot.
Don't go for 14" QHD 6800s, just dont. (g14) just too small.
My 2 cents.. skip Intel on a laptop, they run too hot. IF you do, don't go for something thin..Alienware X15 R2 isn't to bad.. palmwrest gets warm. Expensive if not open box. BestBuy open box Alienware Service Tag start on the day that laptop was shipped to BestBuy, Alienware/dell will refresh it 1 year from when you bought it, but if you want extended 5 year with dell , you can't the birth date is when it was shipped to Bestbuy.
I can't stand Bestbuy anymore. No store contact, bad business deals with Alienware, bad components in laptops.
I even bought an Advantage Edition whos owner switched out the M.2 and a ram stick.. two different ram sticks and an old PCIe3 drive (on top of that the laptop serial number didn't even match the box)
no more Bestbuy.
So watch out buying with Bestbuy and Buying an ASUS now. They both cut corners.
