Got the 32gb for $99
I have a few of the previous generations (4k first gen 2017) in 64gb and never needed the extra space.
I've used Roku, firetstick, builtin sony and samsung streamers. Apple TV is my favorite by far. You can use your regular tv remote to control apple tv. If you have an iphone it will auto pause tv when you get a call i you want.
4K (first generation)
At an Apple Special Event on September 12, 2017, Apple announced the Apple TV 4K which supports 2160p output, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and includes a faster Apple A10X Fusion chip supporting HEVC hardware decoding. Dolby Atmos support was added in tvOS 12. Following the announcement of the new models, the 64 GB version of the Apple TV HD was discontinued. Externally it is similar to the 4th generation model, with the only differences being the addition of vents on the base, the removal of the USB-C port, and the addition of a tactile white ring around the Menu button on the included Siri Remote.
4K (second generation)
On April 20, 2021, Apple announced an updated Apple TV 4K with the A12 Bionic chip, support for high frame rate HDR, HDMI 2.1, and Wi-Fi 6. Its HDMI port supports ARC and eARC, which allows other sources plugged into the television to output audio through Apple TV, including to AirPlay speakers like HomePod. It also has the ability to pair with the ambient light sensor on iPhones with Face ID to optimize its color output, a feature that was also extended to older Apple TVs with tvOS 14.5. AirPlay supports high frame rate HDR playback, allowing videos shot on the iPhone 12 Pro in Dolby Vision 4K 60fps to be mirrored in full resolution. Following the announcement, the previous Apple TV 4K with an A10X Fusion chip was discontinued.
The model also comes with a thicker redesigned Siri Remote with a circular touchpad with navigational buttons, as well as power and mute buttons. The remote does not include an accelerometer and gyroscope, which were present in the previous Siri Remote, making it incompatible with some games. The remote is compatible with previous generation tvOS-based Apple TVs and ships with an updated SKU of the Apple TV HD.
4K (third generation)
On October 18, 2022, Apple announced an updated Apple TV 4K with the A15 Bionic chip, reduced weight and dimensions, and support for HDR10+. It comes in two configurations, a Wi-Fi-only model with 64 GB of storage, and a higher-priced 128GB model with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a Thread radio. The included Siri Remote charges via USB-C instead of Lightning.
I still use my AppleTV from 2018 and it's faster than my 2021 Firestick. You'll get 6 years out of this so it's worth 3 firesticks plus you won't get bombarded by amazon and can do screen mirroring if you have an iphone. what would you rather have?
Early version. It's a fluid OS, but the picture quality isn't $100 better. If you're using a $2000+ tv, you've already got an excellent built in smart OS.
If I had a $2000 TV, I'm pretty sure I could afford an extra $100 to get the best possible experience and that means hooking an apple tv up to it.
I'd also rather not use any slow or laggy built in OS on any TV, I'd also rather not see any ads or be tracked. I'm pretty sure that the CPU even on a $2000 tv is a joke compared to the A15 in the newest Apple TV.
In reality, I just have a $500 TV that I got through a deal on this site by the way, but I do have an Apple TV hooked up to it and it makes the experience much better, because everything is smooth and fast and the UI is better than what's found elsewhere imo.

There's no such thing as an excellent built in smart OS. They're all mediocre.
You can use Airpods on ATV to watch TV correct? Can you pair multiple Airpods?
Yes it handles multiple pairs, and you don't even have to pair them. It will just automatically detect airpods that you have previously used on your phone, and will prompt you on screen when those airpods are near. It's about as seamless as it gets.

It is much faster and has a better interface than the Firestick. I have used Disney, Hulu, Netflix, etc. and prefer the Apple apps to Amazon's for streaming.
I also use a program called Air Video Server to stream content on my PC using my Ipad. I did not bother with Plex on my new computer. You do not get the the thumbnails as you do with Plex but I like the simplicity of just drilling down the folders on my PC.
Thanks you for clearing that up. Yeah, I pretty much love Plex & it's former self XBMC going back to the OG Xbox. It even runs great on my guest room cheapo Hisense Roku TV.. I don't think I'd appreciate the navigational speed improvement as much as it's snappy enough as is.

It does, there are two models and the higher model has it, the one for $149.99
If you want or need ethernet, get the one that has it.
I don't know the stats, but I would bet that the vast majority of people use WIFI. And everybody can get the device they need based on their preferences.
I like Ethernet for consistency. I'll probably get the 2021 32gb because all I'll do is stream. I won't be downloading any movies or games. It also won't be on my main system, only on the one I use on weekends at another location.

64GB is $129, but removes Ethernet port for wifi only connections.
128GB model is $149 and retains the ethernet port
