I'm curious as to how these codes are distributed?
This radio may be a good thing to have around as the economy continues to be in a recession. Hopefully, the economy picks up at some point and does not further deteriorate into a full blown depression, as this radio will be one of my only means to get entertainment and news when no one can afford cable TV or streaming rates.
Buying one (radio) now as I may not be able to afford one in the future!

I lived through the last time when inflation was crazy high like it is now and lots of workers were laid off due to the following recessions. History has a way of repeating itself. Large scale layoffs are probably around the corner. I was a kid back then, my mom got laid off from a high-tech job (back then, working for a large scale computer company). Some of my friends had parents that were laid off. Cable TV was just starting to be a thing...and guess what the first thing cut was...Cable!
Again, history often repeats itself...that's all my comment was about.
Midland - WR120B/WR120EZ - NOAA Emergency Weather Alert Radio - S.A.M.E. Localized Programming, Trilingual Display, 60+ Emergency Alerts, & Alarm Clock (WR120B - Box Packaging) https://a.co/6mLLxvh
Once you program it, you can pretty much ignore it. If there's a severe weather situation, the sound it emits will definitely get your attention, even if you're asleep.
If you want something for an extended power outage, get a crank radio. Lots of difference ones to choose from.
In terms of something handheld, the advantage of the Baofeng is that it can also transmit, which can save your life in an emergency. You'll need to get a license to operate legally, but, if you spend lots of time in remote areas, it might be worth it.
Trying to figure out if a license is worth the cost of a fine and the time to obtain it.
In my gentle opinion there's little point to buying a ham radio for emergencies if you're not getting licensed and therefore never getting comfortable with using it. I bought a Baofeng like everyone else and let it collect dust - now I'm starting to use and enjoy radios. But if a disaster occurred before now, I'd have no idea what to do with it.
