This is made in the US, so if you are the type of person that says more things should be made in the states, this is one of those things. I would not buy another if you have one though.

Yes, or you could just use a set like this which doesn't require triple checking measurements and has no room for error.

What happens if you are out of the corresponding nut or bolt?

And depending on the organizational level of the person, the other bin could be wrong too. Perhaps that is why foolproof products like this were designed?

This set would also be great if you accidently dumped your nut / bolt set on the ground and you were trying to put everything back in its proper place.

That will be great, I'll just finish my project I was measuring a bolt for once my restock order arrives.

And again, I do the exact same thing as you but that does not mean there is no use case for this product. I hate chocolate ice cream...but does that mean stores shouldn't sell it or it doesn't need to exist?

An entire wall? Ok buddy. Let's see... There's literally 26 metal bits on this wire. So you would need literally just 26 bolts and 26 nuts *if* you wanted to replicate it *exactly*. But sure, you need an entire wall 👀

But a standard spare nut/bolt kit will cover the most common sizes and tell you what you need most likely every time you need to fit one. I have literally not come across something I needed to find a fit for that wasn't in my assorted bolts/nut kit already. Will I eventually? Maybe.

By fixed, I mean it cannot be removed (I am not sure how that wasn't obvious). Say a tapped thread on an engine or large piece of metal that you need to fit a bolt into. Or a welded bolt on such similar situations that you need to find a nut for.

I have kids, which is why I keep that shit out of their reach. It's not hard and you should be doing that anyways with the numerous things in your house they shouldn't be messing with

That would let you have the thread checker that will fit nearly anywhere a random nut will, and the thread checker has the size and pitch stamped, so no issues about misfiling.
Best of both worlds if you find having the checker tethered to be too much of a problem.

Found same thing as cheap as $14.36 on AliExpr. If buying something easily replicable with 'the original' in its name gives you the warm and fuzzies then by all means spend 50% more. Plenty of reviews for this one state QC issues with pics, i.e. bad threads, broken spacers, etc.

If you don't care about quality, accuracy, country of origin, or reliable quick free shipping by Amazon, then by all means save yourself a couple bucks on that Chinese gamble.

The reviews for this product include zero 1-star reviews and only 1% 2-star. It really doesn't get much better than that.

I was looking at these for custom designing automotive products utilizing factory mounting options but ultimately just got a flat piece of kydex (or any sheet good) and drilled 60 holes. I took it to an ace hardware and bought one of each size fastener and nut for <$10. Secure each through the holes and label. Now you have the actual replacement fastener/nut to quickly identify threaded holes and studs in hard to reach places and to use if you are in a bind. Only use one at a time and if you are missing any, take a picture and the board is its own shopping list. Much more useful than these IMO and every major hardware store has some form of these (or you can check with what's on the shelf anyway). I store a few nuts on each bolt so I can grab one if needed for minor fixing work (not load bearing). My board is M2 through M12 all pitches and 1/4" through 1" most pitches including some old english/plumbing/ACME stuff. There's usually only 2 OBVIOUS and common pitches per size and a couple strange half sizes I encounter in the metric range.

Several of the pieces on those boards at my local hardware stores have broken off and are missing. Fail.
So you've driven across town to find what size bolt you have and when you do and try to find a replacement since you're there, you discover they don't carrying the length you need with a hex drive head. Yay. Wasted time and gas.
Better move...get this inexpensive tool you'll have forever. Measure your bolt or nut and search online for your parts before you drive anywhere. You may discover you need to order it online.

You mean "self tapping" screws right? ie screws that will cut into the material by itself (wood). My flat sheet checker has the suggested pilot hole size, handy but not an absolute must. Depending on regular, coarse or fine pitch, the pilot drill hole size does vary slightly. Even with self tapping, I try to drill pilot holes to prevent cracking, provided I'm not feeling lazy Smilie Reason being that the pilot hole will remove excess material whereas the screw won't.
