This is made in the US, so if you are the type of person that says more things should be made in the states, this is one of those things. I would not buy another if you have one though.

Do I need to look closer or do you need to read closer? I said 26 bolts and 26 nuts... To account for the bolt and nut end on all 26 pieces on this wire. 2/2 posts you don't even read what you are replying to.

My mind wasn't made up and I got an actual good solution to the question on what I found problematic on this item.

I will say, if I did come across some size that wasn't included in my nut/bolt assortment, I'd probably also just use my tap/die set which has 9 more thread sizes then this kit.

Encouraging your kids to be creative + encouraging ingenuity and keeping drawers of organized tiny parts aren't mutually exclusive. Regardless if your letting your kids mix around your nuts and bolts, you have that problem anyways whether your using them for sizing or not. Just a strawman argument making up problems that aren't relevant

Ordered this. I compared the pics of the knockoff one mentioned in this thread compared to the "original" and it looks like the original has the sizes stamped or engraved, while the knockoff has the letters printed only. If that is truly the case, I expect the printed version to wear off over time and not be legible anymore.

The "knockoff" version ($20) claims "Thread sizes are permanently carved on each gauge with distinct mark". I'll probably try that one and might return it if it's not. Even if it isn't, I'm not sure my once a month usage will wear off the paint by the time I get arthritis.

I like the way you and dealzez think. I came wanting to be convinced this would work for me, better than pulling a nut or bolt out of my tray. I wasn't. Hilarious how people reach when they see a USA patent on a picture on the Amazon website and think its made in the USA. I guess the Made in USA slogan on a generic page on their website means all their products are made in the USA. Same exact product from China aliexpress with exact same dividers $17 plus tax. I don't care either way.

I agree, that big tag that says "US Patent" is over the top, but apparently their marketing with that tag is really working! When I search online, I can't find that product sold in B&M stores, only online, and that is usually a red flag to me.

Usually made in USA or Germany, Japan . . . gives you quality. But because nobody can enforce anything in the USA, and anyone can find a away to legally or illegally say it was made in the USA, the meaning of it is not as significant anymore. besides, this "tool" is not going to see any stress test, so metal quality is not relevant.

And yes I do agree, if we all had interest to get this issue fixed we would make the law very clear as to what can have the "Made in USA" on it.

Ordered one of these to have handy when needed. (Different brand) I have a pedestal one like you find at Home Depot in the bolt section but wanted a portable one for convenience. Anyhow, I was concerned that the markings would eventually rub off and then be screwed so I tried a little clear fingernail Polish but that immediately ate up the markings so after thinking about it I decided to try Elmer's "Clear glue" as it's water based and that seemed to put a good hard coating on the numbers. Put 2-3 thin layers on each.

I mounted mine on the side of my tool cabinet with small magnets - one for each of the pieces on the string so they are held in place. Makes it just like the thread check board at the hardware store.
