Every (6-8) HP/Compaq my parents bought me early 2000s or I've bought has crashed and burned epically. Refuse to buy that malarkey any more.

MSI B660M wifi ddr4 motherboard, 550W power supply and a gen 3 SSD, if anyone wanted to know where the corners were cut. The air cooler they put in these is usually a Vetroo tower, which is cheap but actually pretty good. The water coolers they use on some models had a leaking problem with a recall that may or may not have affected these.

When I got mine, the two ground pins on the end of the 8 pin gpu connector weren't plugged in. Apparently that doesn't stop it from working, but it was a bit concerning. Cable management is good. Space for another HDD, and will take a second gen3/gen4 nvme ssd on the motherboard, which has 3 additional pcie slots of which one is mostly covered by the graphics card.

Because of the 550W suppply (which I was shocked to see, even with low expectations), only 2 of the 3 motherboard cpu power connections are filled. A possible limiter to higher end overclocking/tinkering.

Decent mid case with two fans in the front, room for a 3rd which is partially covered by the front panel. One rear fan, no room for another. Top is wide open for a radiator up to full size. Magnetic dust covers on everything except for the front panel intakes. Room for up to about a 6" replacement supply (7" space, 1" for cables).

MSI also sells this case, power supply and either a b660 or am4 motherboard all prewired for a fairly cheap price, for someone building a lower end mid tower that wants to use similar parts. I've seen them for around $150ish. Sometimes for $100 or $130 at newegg on sale.

Oh I completely agree. My HP/Dell hatred is probably unrivaled. I just tried to keep it unbiased.

This is really helpful for those comparing between this deal and building their own.
The 13th gen i5 13600K also has the built in iGPU which the MSI's 12th gen i7-12700F does not. Plus it's faster. You could even hold off on getting the 3060 until they drop further in price (as rumored) or get the next model higher.

Another benefit with building your own is if you don't need an extra keyboard, mouse, hard drive or Windows license.

Still like this Costco deal. It's all ready to go and has all the benefits of Costco which has added value too.

I have it right here, the very same machine, and its a 550W from someone called "Aprevia" if I recall correctly.

Just swapped it for a 1000w yesterday. Costco has been selling the same thing for a while now.

In any case, whether its 550 or 650, you really won't be upgrading the gpu without replacing it.

Thanks for bringing this up, I was unaware of Raptor Lake and how much better it is (apparently, based on 2m of Googling)...I've ALWAYS built/upgraded my PC's since the late 90's (yep, I'm old), so I am not worried about that aspect...it's just this Costco deal includes EVERYthing...and saves you the build/test/install time to boot (which is pretty signigicant if you value your time (and you should Big Grin

).

Why the micro ATX mobo in your build? You also have no cooler selected. Any reason for that?
