Damn, my Att prepaid renewal is in a few days. Ended up jumping on the buy 3 months, get 3 months deal from Mint via Target. Would have rather gone this route and saved the headache of porting. We'll see how mint service goes for me. Att was okay, worked better for me than Visible, but I've moved since.

Anyone else seeing credit card issues?
  • Tried buying $200 eGift card with cc1: We apologize, but your order has been declined.
  • Tried buying $200 eGift card with cc2: Success
  • Tried buying $150 eGift card with cc2: We apologize, but your order has been declined.
  • Going to try $150 again with cc3

Maybe there's also a limit based on credit card number?

Use a virtual number from citi and that worked.

Thanks OP. Free $12 per hundred is pretty good. I'm paying anyway.

Worked for me with one of each. I split the order into two different ones. One order through my chase card, and one through my citi card.

I did try a prepaid gift card first, but that didn't work.

FYI, this also stacks with the "Have $5 on Us" email code the Kroger GC Team recently sent out (YMMV). Grabbed the $200 EGC for $171.

Finally! Tried this last year when my att yearly $300 was due and kept getting cancelled even though the charge was going through on my card according to the credit card company.

This year I was able to order 300+200+100 on the same order for $552 in CA. Cards were approved and delivered quickly and got my line and my wife's line paid up for the next year. $23/month per line feels not too shabby...

I did the same a few months back and let me say, porting from AT&T to Mint was a breeze and Mint was very communicative and overall I was impressed for being low cost! However, porting back to AT&T was a nightmare, definitely not smooth and I had no service for 2 days! AT&T definitely does not have their act together, their website sucks compared to mint and they have horrible customer service as well as crappy hours. Oh and AT&T stores will not help you because they don't make commission off prepaid! The only thing that was impressive about AT&T was that they Fed-Ex overnighted the SIM card.

Darn, could have used this a week ago. Ended up getting the $300 card online from Target. They didn't charge any tax in CA. Is Kroger adding tax on for some in CA?

I always get these in CA. No sales tax. Just a $0.30 wireless 911 fee. But my order was declined which is odd.
CA MTS (Mobile Telephony Services)

New Information: Effective January 1, 2023, a new 988 surcharge is imposed on:
  • Each access line for each month or partial month for which a service user subscribes with a service supplier.
  • Each retail purchase of prepaid mobile telephony services in California.

911 Surcharge and Local Charge Rates
Sellers of prepaid mobile telephony services (MTS) will be required to collect, report, and pay the Emergency Telephone Users (911) Surcharge and/or local charges when making retail sales of prepaid MTS to a prepaid MTS consumer.

911 Surcharge Rate
Beginning January 1, 2020, sellers of MTS are required to collect the 911 Surcharge at a flat rate on each retail transaction involving a sale of prepaid MTS.

Local Charge Rates
If you are making retail sales of prepaid MTS from your business location, you should generally charge and collect the correct local charge rate for the city and/or county where your business is located. However, if you do not make the sale at your business location (for example, you make sales through your website), local charges may still apply if the known address of the customer is in California. Local charges will be collected as a percentage of the retail selling price of prepaid MTS.

Any AT&T users successful at switching from the $300/year plan for 8GB to the new $300/year plan for 16GB?

Just picked this up to top up my account in prep for my annual renewal, but would rather use some renewal leverage to up my monthly data quota.

I've seen some previous discussion of people who were unable to get switched to the promotional double-data plan. The solution was to port out your number to another provider, and then sign up for the new promotional plan and port-in.

Given the issues people have had with porting (I myself had some difficulties porting in 2-3 years ago when I first got on the plan) and the fact that my usage generally never tops 3GB unless traveling, and I generally start every month with 13-14gb total data with rollover from previous month, I decided not to risk it for extra data that I wasn't using anyway. Just something to consider if you're trying to decide if it's worth going through the porting process.
