An "extraordinary" (New York Review of Books) novel based on the true story of how German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II. In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of The Book of Science and Antiquities and The Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden—Schindler's Jews—to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil.

It is NOT fiction, it is non-fiction, i.e. true . Leave it to Amazon to screw up something that important. The book gave rise to the movie, and the filming of that movie gave rise to the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, which over half a dozen years, recorded the histories of over 54,000 Holocaust survivors all over the globe in their own words.
The book is excellent and the movie adhered to the book for the most part though Hollywood included a (limited) romance element which the book never mentions. Details such as the male prisoner (teacher) who went in the gas chamber with his pupils, singing along the way to try to ease their pain during their last moments of life and other horrific events are also included in the book. Excerpts from the diary of the Heer officer (fitness officer) who was sympathetic at the end of the book are also included. A morbid/detailed perspective of what many have gone through but I recommend Bloodlands:Europe between Hitler and Stalin to get a broader and more thorough perspective of what the inhabitants of Poland and neighboring countries went through beginning with collectivization programs through the final solution. Many details were declassified following the USSR's breakup.
I google it. This Schindler dude used all of his money to bribe Nazi officers to protect his Jewish workers. That's one cool guy, in my book.. well his book 😂.
