Exact same thing happened to me. 7$ on twitch multiple charges. Had to call customer care to get it sorted. This happened 3 times in past one year.
I'm not sure if this is what happened to my card as well but I cannot use the card details (numbers) online; only when teh card is present will the charge get approved. Any attempt to use the card number/exp date online gets denied. I'm ok with this since I never use it except for 5 small purchases at local places and of course, on Amazon to spend the points. Which reminds me, I cannot use the card on Amazon, it is blocked and the charges are denied. The only charge that goes thru is when I use all points to make my Amazon (and $0 charged to the card). This happened awhile back when a bunch of WS accounts got hacked and I never called it to get the block(s) lifted. I'm ok with this because the account being frozen meant rent payment might not go thru but I have since learned of the workaround called BiltProtect.
if you pay rent with the ACH paypal method, will the landlord get a 1099 or a big tax bill at the end of the year? my landlord won't take it if that happens
Your landlord is supposed to pay taxes on your rent, no matter how it's received.
When he is audited, they will go back infinitely and find every dollar he's been paid.
And whoever reports him can win 20% of his total tax liability.
To clarify a ton of the common questions:
You can use this with any apartment that accepts payments online through a checking account. Bilt will create a checking account that is directly linked to the card. You provide your apartment with the checking info, but the payment is actually made from your card. Added bonus to this system, you can set up the card so that when rent is paid from the Bilt checking account, it does NOT charge your card, rather it automatically pays what would have been the charge from your "normal" checking account. Instantly.
No, you cannot use it for a mortgage per Bilt TOS.
RENT DAY is on the first of every month and provides double whatever the regular points are. I do 75% of all my subscriptions and try to do all larger purchases on the 1st.
In a single year I've got enough points for almost 2 round trip flights to Cancun. Have paid exactly ZERO interest because I just send whatever the balance is 3-4 times a week as if it was my debit card.
There are other benefits but the real power is earning points for rent. And it's easy AF.
I assume this carries standard Mastercard purchase protection? If you're having issues and move out, file a charge back on the last 2 months rent. Let the CC figure it out.
Just have to say I have this card and love it. We live in a VHCOL city and max out the 100k/year points which can be transferred to hotel or airlines for a good redemption level. If anything, it makes paying rent easier as BILT automatically generates and mails a check to my landlord once a month so I don't even have to remember to do this. In some ways, it's also a no-interest 30-day loan as I don't actually pay my rent until the following month when the bill is actually due. I set up some recurring small subscriptions to bill monthly on rent day (double points) and sometimes use the card for restaurant outings if it falls on the 1st (6% points) to reach the 5 transaction per month requirement. Already have been redeeming for flights, so essentially adds up to free vacations for paying my rent through them.
Although the card is securely locked in a safe and I only use it for rent payments (using routing and account number), my card number was fraudulently used for a twitch subscription. I immediately called and got a new card. First time in 20 years, my card got stolen.
This card has had a lot of fraud issues on it. It's nothing that was caused by the users. Built actually addressed this about a year ago on the Bilt subreddit. They claimed that a fraud ring was brute forcing the credit card numbers basically. Still, the problem is much worse than I have ever seen on any other card, so it feels like they must have been doing something very wrong or had an insider problem. I recently had a couple of "Roku for Roku" fraudulent charges that were not-so-silently reversed (I can still see the charges and reversals) before I ended up calling them to report the fraud. It's frustrating that they still have issues like this considering what a good rewards card this is.

Not true at all. If your company isn't in the Bilt network, then Bilt issues a checking account for you to leverage for online or physical check payments.

Note that checking account still does not work with at least one major rent payment service (Zillow).
Bilt will manually credit you points for paying the rent anyway if you're a cardholder- you just have to email them email month with your receipt paid via your own normal bank account.

Yes because it doesnt show up as a "credit card" to the rent portal

Don't risk your credit and your ability make rent on time, with these guys.
Sure, landlord, don't forget to report the rent as taxable income or the IRS comes after you. Also, you can't live at the same address.

Same thing with paying your rent. Only the Landlords that do short term rentals accept credit cards.
