While I certainly enjoy the extra points, this has caused a headache (and the reddit forums have so many of "us" that this has happened to... double charges, etc). What irks me is that they give you 24 hours to upload a copy of the lease for their verification and I'll have to go scan the lease and redact my personal info if I care to even continue down the path let alone in their 24 hour period. Not sure I'll even bother for the bonus points tbh.
A but of history. Bit had 4 ways of paying your rent using your credit card (without incurring 3% credit card fee AND with getting Bilt rewards points:
1. If your landlord was part of a Bilt Payment Network then you would have Bilt pay the rent directly and charge the amount to your Bilt credit card. People have mentioned glitches with this process, missed payments etc. I personally have no experience since I've always used method 2.
2. If your landlord isn't part of the Bilt Payment network then Bilt would create a virtual checking account for you with an account no. and 8-digit Routing Number with a bank named Evolve Bank and Trust. You would enter this acct number, routing number and Bank name in your landlord's rent payment portal. I've used this for almost two years and never had any issues
3. If your landlord doesn't have an online portal, then Bilt is supposed to mail them a physical check from the same virtual account. I haven't used it so can't comment.
4. Online payments using Paypal/Venmo etc - no idea how that worked
What is changing: (1) Bilt is moving away from Evolve Bank to Column N.A (2) Bilt is also requiring a MAX rent amount that has to be Pre-Authorized. By default, the authorization stays valid for 5 days to submit payment so you will need to re-do it next month. However, there is an option to Auto-Authorize this MAX amount every month so, effectively, you will need to do it only once.
Also note, if your routing number is 121145307, you don't need to change the bank account (I'm assuming this is the new checking bank they are moving to) but you WILL need to pre-authorize..
In my case, my landlord requires 2 small verificaion deposits for new accounts, so I will be starting the process on 4/28 to allow 2-3 days for the micro deposit verifications and be ready by 5/1.
I will also be checking the verification status every month before submitting my rent.
