You just need to be careful.
simulator is not absolutely necessary but if you plan to fly in manual mode, it is highly highly recommended. otherwise, get dji care refresh and fly however you wish i guess.

The FPV and or the Avata are the best FPVs to learn on as they have all the safeties. If you get into trouble you can let go of the sticks and the drone will stay there. On normal FPVs if you get into trouble you have a limited amount of time to save the drone.
