Yeah, and it's so much better. You can use your existing game libraries from steam, epic games, gog, origin, ubisoft. So you don't have to pay for it again. Useful for me to play games on the go with just my macbook.

You are missing the main point of paying for a rented gaming PC hardware. You need to pay buy the games you want to play even if you own a high end gaming PC. People playing pirated games are a different story altogether. I did play pirated games earlier years as I did not have enough money to buy the games legally. Now last few years i did buy all the games I played so developers get their fair share. Now that I have hundreds of digital games I prefer GeForce now platform for play instantly across any of my PC's and not to spend time on installing them locally.

Ok, maybe I did not properly understand what this service provides, then. When I first got my Shield Tablet, Geforce Now (or maybe it was called something else back then) was not only the hardware, but also "renting" from a list of games on that hardware i.e. I could play certain cloud games that I didn't own in my library.

Perhaps things have moved far away from that model and the only real service these provide is the remote hardware for playing games you already own? (This is rhetorical, because I see these details in the "service notes" in the post now)

You cant use mods unless its like on Steam Workshop. I like hacking up and using mods to get maximum value out of my games.

I picked this up as a test run because I found playing Game Pass on my tablet (Samsung A6 lite) to work really well and I was hoping to do the same with GFN to play Steam games like Destiny 2 without having to be in my back office on my PC. First run with Destiny 2 on the tablet wasn't great, lots of hangs and had graphic display issues at times. It worked ok for putzing around in patrol or the tower but I wouldn't trust it for strikes or anything. I need to try that again, maybe my wifi at the time had a poor connection. My second test was on a cheap 300$ Acer Aspire laptop with a Ryzen 3 3200U and 8gb ram (upgraded from 4) and Destiny2 via GFN worked just fine with none of the hangs or graphic issues that the tablet had and was 1080p 60fps the whole time. I'd say its definitely worth the 30$ but I'm not sure I'll renew at 50$/6 months only because I have a PC that can play these games its just inconveniently located at the time. If I only had the crappy laptop it would probably be worth the $50 to get good performance for games on cheap hardware.

If you have a gaming PC can that run your libraries and you simply want a portability solution, check out moonlight. It makes your gaming pc a server that streams to other devices. I use it to game on a tablet or Asus Flow x13, and it works awesome.

Moonlight only works with Nvidia videocards btw. Not AMD videocards

I thought about it. I used steam remote play and didn't like leaving my desktop on (high watt/heat) in the summer during the day, and it wouldn't work when I travel across the country due to latency. I even setup a raspberry pie to wake on Lan. But practically this service for $10/month was worth it

I have a steamdeck now, but when I want to play games like divinity at 1080p60 max settings on my MacBook I can just spin this up at the nearest region.

Great points. It's nice to have options. I plan on getting a steamdeck for xmas, for my son, and a new vid card for myself. Need to see some benchmarks for AMD first. Exciting times!

Yes moonlight works on shield. You just need a pc with Nvidia video card on the same network to broadcast to the shield. Moonlight app needs to be running on the shield (get it from play store)
