For awareness, these are not "factory reconditioned" in a plain-use meaning of the world. Apple only sells Apple-refurbished units through its own online store.

These are returned units.
For what it's worth, Woot says a "factory reconditioned" item was returned, inspected, and restored to fully working condition by the original manufacturer or a certified partner.

Right, which means that a third-party retailer who sells the unit, receives a return, "inspects" it, and then attaches a Woot 90-day warranty qualifies as "factory reconditioned" under Woot's definition. Apple does not certify any third parties to refurbish units.
I've got QC35's and once purchased these Apple AirPods. I really enjoyed owning the AirPods for a few days because they are truly beautifully made. If I could have just hung them on the wall they were almost worth the price. I'm not even kidding. The headphones were comfortable when sitting still, and sound was very good for music, (for wireless headphones), particularly with Apple's Spacial audio. I did like the noise cancelling too, it's very good. They're also on the heavy side which only bothered me when I'd move my head, but it was noticeable then.
The Bose are just so much lighter, and more comfortable to wear. It's not close. If you are moving around at all the difference is very noticeable. They also fold and pack up much smaller - enough so that you can keep them in a coat pocket while traveling. I think the Bose were just designed more around travelers than the AirPods. This, and the fact that wireless still can't match a set of good wired headphones for listening to music, I just couldn't justify paying $500 for these, and returned them. I miss them tho.

Still waiting for an affordable "Sports" or lighter weight version, but this is a nice alternative if you don't mind the weight. FYI, go to an Apple Store and try the Airpods Max, before you buy, they maybe well balanced, but they are considerably heavier than other high-end headphones, please keep that in mind.

I keep checking for the new version to be announced.
One feature I would like to have is to be able to wear them at a concert or other loud place and use them for noise protection but have the speakers in them reproduce the sound but at a reasonable volume.

they are out getting repaired or replaced right now.. i would not buy them without 3 years of apple care
and expect to be calling apple often, and playing the mail in fix game often .. 5 times a year if you use them often
i never even take them out of the house
