Just so you know, they can be wired. The adapter is separate for $35, but you can also by one from a "made for google" partner for $25. That will enable 24/7 recording

Yeah but they are just a normal plug on the adapter. would really prefer ones that connect to main and/or bypass the battery

Not sure I get the difference. It being wired basically does bypass the battery and has it operate as a a wired cam, no?

I have one of these and I'm generally satisfied with it. I purchased the 35-ft wire to power it 24/7. Going battery-powered is asnine, IMO. By the time the camera recognizes activity and starts recording a portion of the incident is missed. Also, It would require me getting on a ladder fairly often to remove the camera, charge it and put it back.

That said, Google really needs to get their shit together on the app side. The camera implementation in Google Home is atrocious and a huge step back from the nest app (which wasn't great but better than google Home).

You are right it looks like, with the official cord at least, it does act as wired. I was under the impression that it was just charging the battery. My concern was related to how functional these will be in cold winter weather.

But running romex from an outlet or another light box would be much cleaner and easier imo than figuring out a run to an outdoor outlet. I want this up on the side of my house and there is no outlet anywhere near sadly, but i could run some romex or PoE through the attic to it.
