For those who care to know about Nest vs the new Google Nest: this will not work with your Nest app. It only works through google home. It also requires more permissions and use of your home data (other connected devices to your google home) otherwise it won't let you use it. Not trying to turn anyone away from this, just sharing if it's important to you. If it is, I recommend reading google nest's data collection/privacy policy before deciding to buy.

Besides that, video quality is good. You have to pay a monthly subscription to be able to scroll back in time. Set up is pretty easy
Nest makes good hardware, google butchers it with terrible software. Im done with them, it's inexcusable that it's still this bad.
I had intended to stick with Nest because I like the 24/7 recording doorbell, but mine recently stated not alerting to people walking right in front of it. It's not worth much if it doesn't alert me to people standing there.

Saw those Eufy cams with the built in solar panels and local storage, so might head in that direction.

Google has a totally redesigned Home App launching at start of the year… it looks a lot better. The Web view of the cameras also coming soon.

I had some hesitation on these because of common complaints on app, but I'm enjoying these cameras so far. And I think the app redesign will help a ton

It's not perfect, but it has come a long way. The camera features work quite well. Being able to adjust how dark it is when it turns on, or what will trigger the camera whether a person, animal, or vehicle all seems to work fine. It is even able to detect a person a good distance away, for me it will trigger if it sees someone across the street.

VicVinegar, they have a new wired doorbell that replaced the old nest one that does 24/7 recording.

I'm so burned out on the promises of something great being on the horizon. Until the functionality is actually there and usable it may as well not exist. I certainly won't make a purchase anymore without the software being there, ex: web view for new cameras, other feature parity.

Most of Google's products and services are getting worse unfortunately. Nest shouldn't have sold to them, neither should have Fitbit.

Which cam would you recommend then that has a good software too? Market is loaded with cams with no clear winner. Eufy is a Chinese company. Are people not concerned with installing their cam? Is Ring software better than Google's?
