Thanks for posting this! Just getting into soldering and got a cheap HF one to use and wanted something half decent. Been looking at the weller WE1010 and not sure if I need something like that for just learning a side hobby for some electronics repair. (Funny enough just did my first desolder and solder job last night and repaired a garage door opener fob which was awesome)

Solid deal. A station for about what the price of just a Weller iron costs.

I will tell you, do NOT go cheap on the soldering iron, especially if you do a lot of soldering. You need one that can keep a good constant temp and will heat back up fast after each use.

Thanks for the info! I have had my eye on that WE1010 and might end up grabbing it down the road. Would this wlc100 model be good as a starter soldering station? Wondering if its okay for a small electronics job every so many months or maybe a wiring job on stereos too every so often.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

If you plan to do any work on PCA repair (remounting ICs, etc.), spring for a better solder station that has an adjustable-temp hot-air rework gun. If not, this should be fine for most other applications.

I'm not gonna act like I know a lot about irons, but this does appear to be a decent one for normal soldering. As the comment above me says, the ultimate would be an adjustable temp station.

Thanks, will pick it up even to have as a backup and keep an eye on the higher end model. Needed something to use for a project this month where I want to fix an old Lionel Transformer power cord so I can have the trains up and running for the kiddos for the holidays.

I need to weld a broken gate latch (steel to steel). Is this sufficient?

No. Welding and soldering are two very different things.

Excellent low cost iron. For through hole PCB soldering this works great. I used one for many years before upgrading to a unit with hot air and a soldering pencil., but I kept the Weller as a backup.

Does the power control translate to heat control?
