These appear to be brushed tools, and only include 2 3.0Ah batteries. Not a bad starter set for a homeowner though.

I have this set. For the price it's not a bad point of entry to the Makita system. The drill, driver, and circular saw are all pretty unremarkable but work just fine. The vacuum is underwhelming but I do still find it useful around the garage. The bag is a bag. I personally don't ever use it since I don't want to advertise that I have potentially valuable tools, but the quality is decent. The light is handy to have around. The 3AH batteries are perfectly adequate for homeowner use even with brushed tools.

The recip saw though is the most useless tool I've ever owned. It has an extremely short stroke length so if you're trying to cut wood the chips don't get ejected from the cut. If you just want to cut PVC it's fine but otherwise plan on getting something better.

These are their oldest tools they still make, but still a good value for a homeowner.

I'm looking for a new impact and drill. What Makita do you recommend for moderate to heavy use?

If you aren't in a rush, I would wait and shop around for black friday deals. Look for a brushless set with a hammer drill(for drilling masonry), and the 5.0Ah batteries are a good size/runtime balance.
Something like this set:
Makita XT269T 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 2-Pc. Combo Kit (5.0Ah) https://a.co/d/fp9gW8n

I have this set and for the price it's definitely worth it. The recip saw is not great, but ok in a pinch. I tend to keep corded saws for heavy use and use my cordless stuff for when I just need to make a quick cut. The bag that comes with this set is great if you need to go somewhere with your tools. The vacuum with this set works surprisingly well for picking up saw dust.

The previous combo deal is pretty decent. I ordered a set from HomeDepot and just received. Pretty good brushless deal.

If i was really looking for heavy use, i would look forward to the makita xgt 40 volt lineup. It's the best of both worlds. Loads of power for a drill/driver and new tools that demand extreme power can use 2x 40 volt batteries.
I just might transition to the 40v myself.

If you are near a home Depot, I would recommend stopping in as they have the holiday sale running, purchase the Makita xt288t and choose 2 free tools from the line up for free. It's a great deal imo for their "higher end" 4 speed impact and drill. Plus 2 bare tools at no cost such as a router, grinder, oscillating tool, etc.
