I know, right?.. I mean why not give away sodium tech that replaces lithium, like we did with thorium to China? I guess it depends on how many shares of fossil fuels stocks you own. Mik merk grit gin!

Just curious, can the solar plug in directly or you need a controller for the solar?

you typically see these rated at about 700 to 800 charge cycles
while Lifep04 last 4x longer than that at around 3000 charge cycles

somehow, they have managed to double the normal life cycle of these battery's
it's gets a decent review > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMN_A221GOo

Thanks.

Not sure in what world 800 charges isn't enough for anyone. Even if you charge it 200 times a year for your job as a contractor, that is still 4 years and you still have 80% battery life left.

Most portable power station fails on its circuit before battery failure

I thought the bigger issue people have with Lithium-Ion in these threads is that it doesn't hold a charge like LifePo4. So if you suddenly need it in an emergency, you may find that all the charge drained off of it since the last time it was charged. Is that incorrect?

The additional cycles are great, but the bigger reason is that LifePo4 doesn't have thermal runaway and doesn't explode.

Self-discharge rate of LFP batteries is typically called out as 5% per month. So after a year, you'd have ~40% charge left. Not great, still, but acceptable.

Lithium-ion is typically called out as 1-2% self-discharge per month. Actually quite a bit better. I'll note that this all depends on the ambient temperature. If the temperature is elevated (say, if you stored it in the garage during the summer) then the discharge rates quoted can be extremely high, 2-3x higher.

Either way, you shouldn't be relying on ANY battery pack you charged a couple years ago and pulled out of a cabinet in an emergency situation. Everything should be checked every ~6mo. Same thing if you happen to own one of those lithium 'jump start' packs. Better charge it every ~3mo, otherwise when you are left stranded you're gonna be disappointed.
