The Gigabyte is an 11th gen i5, the HP is a 12th gen i7, that's a significant difference in performance. The HP also has double the memory so you're really not comparing apples to apples.

Depends of what you're doing. If you're a gamer, get the bigger graphics card. If you are someone that needs to do a lot of content editing and such and get the higher-end processor. My i7 12th gen Hewlett-Packard came with a 3050 TI and it works wonderful for everything. I wrote a really big review on the Best buy page for the Hewlett-Packard Victus 15. You'll probably find yourself having a tweak a few settings based on whatever performance level you need. I didn't like the Hewlett Packard's cooling system and had to modify mine a scotch. I also added in New and better thermal paste (noctua gen2) and dropped my temperature 15 to 20°. I also ripped the shielding that was out of the bottom of the laptop blocking the vent and cooled it down almost another 20°. I increased the venting and probably voided my warranty in another way. And for very intensive processing like video compression or super high end games, I got a laptop cooling pad with fans to force air through it even more.

The hard drive is a mid-range performer with performance on the pcie gen4 side. I ended up taking a higher end SSD and pop that in and put a 2 mil heat sink with a thermal pad quality to the top of it and remove the old thermal pad. I don't know if this was necessary, but I felt like there was a bottleneck.

I ended up realizing that the processor itself is about a 450 or so dollar processor and the graphics card is somewhere around 300 or more. with all the components and prices figured in $800 is a very excellent price for what you're getting. I'm just paranoid about heat when I am pushing the unit. most times, I have the processor dialed WAY down for normal everyday stuff. I'm doing something heavy duty I can dial it up and get the most I can out of it.

Find some videos of a teardown and decide whether or not this will meet your needs. Or even if you are someone that cares about thermal throttling. Other than mine OCD, it ran fine stock. since I'm planning on keeping this unit for the next 15 years or so, I wanted to get it right right-a-way.
