Once you get shop card, immediately log back in and turn OFF auto renew. That flags system to send you out marketing communication (normally on monthly flyer) to renew with $20 off for 2024 via in store.

My membership expired just a month ago and I am able to apply the coupon and see -0.01 as well, but they will not send the ShopCard...
In your situation, since your wife was never a member within past 18 months, you should be good..
