Which states the same as the OP, but also gives an expiry date of Jan 1 2023.

Once you get shop card, immediately log back in and turn OFF auto renew. That flags system to send you out marketing communication (normally on monthly flyer) to renew with $20 off for 2024 via in store.

Use that card to buy all of your gas at Costco + any purchases you make there. We do this and make around $400 a year in their rewards and cash back program. This pays for the membership fee and gets us extra cash (you can actually cash the checks out at the cash registers there).
So...that's my vote.

Would you even save that much annually? Costco gas has LONG lines, limited hours and is only a few cents cheaper.
IF you join rewards programs of Exon/Shell/Marathon etc etc - you can get discounts on gas. Plus better quality, no lines, 24 hour flexibility etc etc.
Am I way off? I'm sure there is something I'm not thinking about.
