Does this model need bags for the base station?

This is the Black Friday from last year, Walmart exclusive from what I can gather. Looks like some locally got it ~$100-$150 in YMMV in the beginning of 22. But I think this will probably go lower. Regular price has been $350.

Why can't I find much about the i1+ in Roomba comparisons around the internet? Is this a Walmart exclusive model and what am I losing in comparison to the much more expensive and seemingly almost identical i3 or i7?

I'm tempted to buy this but am really confused as to how this one is such much less expensive while offering the auto empty which seems to be generally only for the top end devices....

So I've been looking for a deal for a good robot vacuum that fits my standards which means I've looked at nearly every model (ideally without the mopping feature). the iRobot i3 (and probably this i1) just go around in lines and do not have any mapping software. Ideally, a robot vacuum at the basic level has Lidar so you can set things like no-go zones and rooms for the vacuum to work in. There is a newer technology that the J7 has like obstacle avoidance, instead of just running over a wire and getting stuck, which is kind of needed, but they removed the top mounted lidar camera for that and went with a front-facing camera only.

To summarize, don't get anything below the i7 robot vacuum for iRobot if you want it to perform good enough and you can do certain rooms.

Thanks for this summary! The lack of mapping is a big hit. I thought it had mapping when I read that it runs in intelligent straight lines...

I'm not sure I should be so concerned about having mapping but I am - perhaps just because it's cool.

Thanks BillytheGOAT

No problem! Mapping is essentially required because you can tell the vacuum to clean an area and it just doesn't bump into every object. Now their's could also have a small proximity sensor as well, but if you're going to go for a starter robot vacuum, it should have Lidar at the very least and the two next steps up would be to have the "ai" which has that Obstacle avoidance and the P.O.O.P., Pet Owner Official Promise (if it hits poop, they will replace your robot at no cost to you).

The second one would be to have a base station as well. 30-60 days seems to be the norm of how much they can hold. Shark's version is bagless which is nice to not have to purchase something else, but their's isn't the best and the app I hear isn't too good.
