Sales have already plummeted, just look at Nvidia and AMD's recent earnings announcements. They can try to pull the wool over your eyes in their marketing, but if they're not honest in investor disclosures they'll be fined. Case in point, Nvidia was fined for not disclosing that they knew their GPU business was dependent on crypto-mining and they didn't disclose it to investors.
That having been said, some of these high end cards are actually quite expensive to produce. Large GPUs don't necessarily yield well, which makes them expensive to produce. And the costs of even things like the transceivers for the PCIe channels cost a lot more than you might think. We're probably not heading back to the days of a midrange graphics card costing $100 anytime soon. But at least integrated graphics have mid lower-end graphics cards a lot more affordable by simply doing away with them...

That's good that they were fined for that. It was dubious with the way they worded their statement as to why sales were down. They didn't want to have any links to mining profitability since their current huge issues of overstocking cards, little sales, and AIBs not accepting new shipments is not being reported properly.
By my calculations, a 6950 XT will have to be around the price they're selling the 6900 XT at to make it a buy, and the 6900 XT would have to be at about $600. Since it's not there, I'll wait with all of you for the 7900 XT. I already have a 3070 in my gaming PC, so I'm not desperate, but I wouldn't mind something better than the HD 7870 Ghz that's in my TV computer (which is serviceable for 1080p/med at 30-40 FPS for all but the most recent games). With the state the market is in now, I suspect that almost everyone who wants one has either at least one serviceable GPU or a modern console (Series X / PS5) at this point.

This post looks the most foolish after last night's release of the 7900XTX at $1,000 and 7900XT at $900.
WE ARE HEROES, THOSE OF US WHO HELD THE LINE!
I'm a hero that is still on my 1070 and it doesn't look like any option available for me to get a GPU. Last night announcement is cool, but I wasn't going to drop $1k on a GPU.

No you are not giving out the correct information here. The manufacturing cost for Nvidia has gone up, that's true. but not even close to the price bump showed by RTX 4090. As a matter of fact, AMD managed to duce their BOM significantly for next generation. That's simply Moore's law. $1600 for RTX 4090 is still a dumb price. It's completely made up to clear the excessive stock of rtx 3000 series. Only fools can't see this.
