The iOS/Android app for Roku provides control of any Roku (multiples even) if you lose the remote. I know it is not a full replacement but it has worked well for me when I have needed it.

Don't lose the remote! The Roku streaming sticks are the only Roku models that aren't compatible with 3rd party remote controls. They require the official Roku streaming stick remote.

The difference is sort of like paying with your phone vs paying with your card. Remote control vs phone control. Content wise they're mostly the same. I prefer having a remote controller.
