I have the Series 4 Stainless Steel Silver and do not use any protective cover. It still looks brand new even though I wear it everyday. I do not find the need to upgrade series 8 worth it although mine is 4 yrs old. I have cell service on mine so I leave my phone at home most of the time. Cost me only $5/mth from Tmobile for the service
