I just want you to know that if you live near a Microcenter, I hate you :-(
The danger to going with this deal is AMD comes out with the X3D chip(s) during CES and obliterates all competition again just like the 5800X3D did when it released. The problem with that is the AM5 motherboards are expensive right now. I'm on a 7700K box and I'm also contemplating on just picking up a cheap AM4 mobo and cpu but would be dead end (but still cheap). I would personally rather do that than pick up a 13900K which is also a dead platform. Those benchmarks beat AMD only when you go with DDR5 ram so if you're going to fork over that much money, you might as well do it on an AM5 motherboard so you can upgrade to a 8000 or 9000 series Ryzen in a few years with the same motherboard.

TLDR:
go AM4 if you want to upgrade cheap (CPU prices have never been cheaper)
go Intel 13XXX if you want something faster than AM5 in productivity and 1080p gaming.

go AM5 if you want flexibility to upgrade to a 2024 or 2025 processor.
You can still use an old Z690 board for it, it just has to support being able to flash to a newer BIOS without a cpu installed

If AMD's policy doesn't change, you will have to buy a new board every other generation just like Intel. Intel changes socket every other generation, so you have to buy a new motherboard if your CPU is newer than 1 gen. AMD doesn't change the socket for quite some time, but forces you to buy a new motherboard every other generation because they make it incompatible with the CPU newer than 1 gen. There is no electrical difference in AM4 socket between B350 board and B550 board, but Ryzen 9 5900X won't run on B350 board. So you can't just upgrade CPU and use the old motherboard. ASRock initially showed my B350 board supporting Ryzen 9 5900X, but later they removed the support most likely due to AMD.

I'll be replacing my Ryzen 7 1800X to Intel i7-13700K + cheap Z690 board, and reusing the old DDR4 from the Ryzen system. Hopefully I won't have to buy AIO cooler for it, but we'll have to see.
AMD backpedaled and provided 5000 series support on 300 series motherboards. Flash the appropriate BIOS update (likely from earlier this year). My X370 will support one. The newer BIOSes drop older series support (A/Athlon) since the flash size is only so large.

You'll need to check if your current cooler supports LGA1700. I had to ditch my Dark Rock 3 since it wouldn't.

Was the previous promo something like they send you the game key and this link is register for it instead?

I still don't understand what all the need to upgrade cpu every few years is about. I'm still on my i5-2500k lol. Only changing because I got a 3080 on a price mistake and didn't want the cpu to be a bottleneck.

Don't waste your time. You didn't get a 'Master key' from MC and you won't get one if you contact them. They don't participate in that promo.

Anyone have a list of retailers that do participate in it?

Does anyone know how long the discounted price will stay active for? I'm unable to get to MC until Saturday, the coupon is active until late November, but unsure how long the discounted price is good for.

Still rocking 4790k and 1080ti but about to cave and upgrade. Seems like no brainer to pick intel over AMD this gen but I almost want to get AMD to be able to upgrade the processor that has the same socket in the next five years ( if they decide to even support AM5 as long as am4) Has there been any further details from AMD on this? Last time I checked their answer on extended socket support was just "maybe". Just gonna be hard to shell out a premium on an AMD board, ddr5 and a worse value processor.
If you still rocking 4700k and 1080ti why bother worrying about socket compatibility? You're like me, upgrading after 6+ years. By then socket compatibility is pointless.

i've been building my own PCs forever, game plenty and use for work as well... i've never once upgraded or even thought about upgrading just the CPU. every upgrade is a mobo/proc, i upgrade every 2-3 gens and a GPU between because that's the bottleneck...

do people really care about upgrade CPUs? the incremental steps are never worth it. just buy the i7 and a good mobo, then wait for the MicroCenter deals for mobo/proc and flip. my upgrades are always <100$ or free after selling off the old hardware.
I upgraded my AM4 CPUs. Was able to go from 3950X 2019 to a 5950X last year. So thats a pretty good upgrade, no need to upgrade MB or RAM.

I understand that.

Nonetheless, a Master Code will NOT print out on your receipt (or email). You need the code to redeem for the free video game on the Intel site.

Don't expect to get the code and you won't be disappointed.

They ran out weeks ago. MC hasn't given us a master code in a while. I've purchased 2 qualified processors so far and no master codes.

I mean, if haswell socket spanned to say a 9700k I probably would have upgraded to that and squeezed another 3 years out of my current mobo/ram setup. I just got the $350 mobo+12700k deal though couldn't pass that up
