Absolutely, solid deal. More lappy than most people would utilize.

I see that it's got the low-power i7, which is great for power consumption. Does anyone know how drastically that dedicated graphics card (not crazy fast, but still dedicated) reduces battery life?

This laptop has a really small battery, only 41wh which is even less than its 14 inch small brother. MX550 is a 25w card and the i7 should also be a ~25w part so in theory heavy usage of both should halve the battery life which already isn't great.

Knowing HP, I'd bet 250. That's pretty low for outdoor use.

What am I missing? This seems like a very solid deal right? Curious how is the MX550 for gaming at this price point, compared to integrated graphics? I'm not looking to play the latest AAA titles but hoping to be able to use it for same standard gaming alongside using the laptop as a work laptop.

Also the RAM on Dell is slower 2666 in dell vs 3200 in HP. Also I think Dell is not backlit. Only better thing is Dell is 1080p webcam vs 720 p in HP.

I bought this HP from Costco and will see if any better deal comes up.

Why are you saying mx450, isnt it mx550 in the specs. I picked this up from Costco but haven't used it yet. I'm even thinking of giving it as a gift to my son for school laptop + standard gaming. My only concern is the screen and battery backup

Bought one, then discovered the RAM maxes out at 16 Gb. So, no upgrade possible. I'll be returning it.

Someone mentioned earlier RAM is upgradable. Isn't it the case? Can we replace the existing RAM for better?

Not upgradable. 16 Gb is all you can have. I checked it by going to the the command prompt screen, typing "wmic memphysical get maxcapacity" at the prompt, and 16 Gb was the answer. HP is limiting max capacity in locked BIOS settings now as a dirty way to get us to buy their overpriced premium models. Buyer beware.
