These are the upgraded speed to the other ones mentioned here. If speed isn't an issue, go ahead with the other ones. It's still not a bad idea to wait for BF though.

thoughts on if its better to buy a NVME and then a enclosure for it? are these sandisk portable ssd devices more durable from accidental drops than a DIY option?

At under $100 it's probably a better value to directly buy something like this since you want the faster enclosure ($20?) that advertises like 10gbps to get the same speed.

Also yes durability these will be better.

I bought the 2 tb model for $149 on Best Buy two days ago. It was a Black Friday deal but it's up to $179 now. Maybe it will drop again on actual Black Friday.

Double the capacity for $50 bucks seemed worth it to me.

It arrived today. It's really tiny. Maybe double the size of a bic lighter?

Samsung is very slightly slower.
And multiple reviews of the Rugged T7 mention the "loose" USB-C connector as compared to the standard T7
