This is a very good deal, but not everyone is very familiar with the Omen line of laptops and there is also a smaller market that's interested in 17" laptops.
Personally I might pick this one up because of the 3070ti (we need ray tracing for work) and the 12800HX (desktop-class processor). TBH the extra screen real estate doesn't hurt, either, for productivity purposes.
Small SSD kills it for me personally. After tax and a SSD upgrade you're looking at other similarly prices deals out there currently.
Even after that, it is cheaper than any laptops available with HX series Processor. I won't blame you but most people simply don't pay much attenion to the HX series and just consider it as a normal H series CPU.
Let me clarify it for you. Normal 12th Gen H series Processors like i7-12700H or i9-12900H has 6 Performance Cores + 8 Efficient Cores with 20 Threads, base TDP of 45W with maximum Boost of around 100-110W (Although few laptops can manage that). But the HX series has 8 Performance Cores + 8 Efficient Core with 24 threads, with base TDP of 55W and maximum of 155W. HP Omen 17 has roubust coooling and this can easily supply 120-130W + during PU only workloads. Because of that, in multi-threaded benchmarks, it is over 20% faster than i9-12900H and offers almost same performance as a Desktop i7-12700.
If you need a Laptop for not only gaming but running very demanding CPU heavy tasks, this laptop will do that for you easily and better than any other laptops at this price range.
And regarding SSD, you can literally get a decent Gen 3 1 TB SSD around $55 now.
The chassis irks me because it only has three exhaust -.-
what are we in 2015?!
May be checking some real review will help rather than deciding the cooling performance based on your observation of how many exhasut it has, which clearly shows you know nothing about this product.

Ah, so the laws of thermodynamics don't matter here. š¤£
Before all OEMS adopted 4 exhausts in their flagships there were mostly 2 or 3.
There's a reason why they all switched to 4 in their flagships.
You clearly don't know about basic science and the evolution of laptop chassis including their cooling solutions.

Let's not throw some jargons you picked up from here and there to prove your point because I've seen plenty of your type here. As I suggested, go and check some actual reviews. Companies can design their cooling solution different ways to dissipate the heat and intaking cool air. The observation you have really can't be backed by thermodynamics because what you're saying is not a scientific method but your opinion based on thin air.

Thermodynamics isn't jargon, you can literally look it up online and it's pretty simple. Energy that comes in as electricity, needs to come out as heat. If you have only THREE exhausts then it is inferior to a chassis with FOUR.
They throttle the CPU to an embarrassing low in order to stay "cool" while pumping way less wattage than the competition. This is the 11th gen but the chassis is exactly the same and it uses the same dye size for the 10nm CPU node process. Which means same watt per IPC to move the 10nm silicon switches.
Have you embarrassed yourself enough ?

Ohh, I did not say Thermodynamics is Jargon...don't try to act that smart. I am simply saying you are just using that as jargon in that context to prove your baseless point of having 3 exhasut meaning bad thermals. I have seen plenty of people to do that...just thorw some tech and scientific terms to back their baseless points.
For a cooling solution of a Laptop, just adding 4 exhaust does not mean it will have better thermals, it depedns upon cooling system design like the type and number of blades of the fan, how they are throwing the hot air out and taking the cool air in, the thermal materials used for heat conduction etc. What you're saying about thermodynamics is literally insanely lame, like a 5 year old kid explaining his understanding of thermodynamics. Go and check some reviews of this laptop's performance against some of your "4 Exhaust laptops" and comeback.
Look slike your use of thermodynamics is really frugal at at best.

You're willfully ignorant. I'm done wasting time here. I posted the temperature results in my previous comment which you are willfully ignoring.
This chassis' cooling SUCKS. It pumps way less wattage than the competition while also throttling.

You posted the review of the last year's model with different internals and cooling and did not understand that. And even on that, from your review, it had the lowest temp in max fan mode, compared to the other laptops they tested, maxing out to 89 degree C vs others almost touching 100. Probably you need to learn how to read comparison charts.

Thankfully there's a website that reviewed this chassis and HP is very shady here
