Been waiting for a big ass TV to go on sale, for Xmas for my pa-in-law, and the time has finally come.

Seems like a much better deal than the TU7000 from Walmart or Best Buy. Same price but with a 5y warranty (instead of 1), a very slightly bigger screen, better viewing angles (IPS panel), 120hz, 4 HDMI ports (instead of 2), HDMI 2.1.

The sale for this was originally slated for the 14th at $1100, according to their Black Friday catalog. I guess they decided to let it go live early & reduced the price!

Edit: I am a little confused why their thumbnail says 2 HDMI when it has 4. I looked up the manuals online on LG's website though and it says 4 in total, 2 x 2.0 & 2 x 2.1.

Edit2: Apparently IPS, 120hz, VRR, & 2 extra HDMI ports (2.1) are unique to the 86" model. Anything smaller is a VA panel, has 2 HDMI ports, only 2.0, no VRR, & 60hz.

Edit3: My pa-in-law mounted it in his living room & has been using it for a few days and is absolutely in love with it. Merry early Christmas, Dale

This one or an 85 qled/full array (about twice the price) for a dark room? I will use it mainly for watching movies.

Edit: Never mind....

From rting
"The LG UQ80 is okay for most uses. It's good for use in rooms with a few lights around while watching TV shows or using it as a PC monitor as it has decent reflection handling, but it doesn't get bright enough to fight a ton of glare. It's also decent for watching sports thanks to its wide viewing angle, but its motion handling isn't special, as there's image duplication. Unfortunately, it's mediocre for watching movies in dark rooms as blacks look gray, and the TV lacks a local dimming feature to further improve the contrast."

This or 85" QN85Q80 - Samsung QLED for $1760

Is that $760 worth the difference?
QLED > UHD LED.
UHD LED just means it's 4k resolution display is higher.
QLED TVs may be worth the extra cost over UHD TVs if you want the best possible picture quality and television with all the latest features. QLED TVs offer several advantages over UHD TVs, including better image quality, more accurate colors, and a more comprehensive range of brightness levels.

Edit: Just re-read it. Gonna have to search/use different cards that are visa and provide extended warranty!
There aren't many that offer extended warranty beyond one extra year, especially with no annual fee.. (I looked into it)

My TV stand is 70" wide and 16" deep. Would it be ok to put it on this stand with a 3" overhand on both sides? Would rather not mount it.

Since this is 120hz, that means we'll get that super smooth motion (almost unrealistic looking) on supported content on Netflix, Prime Video, etc? Unfortunate that the HDR isn't brighter, but the 120hz support is nice.

Waiting for the Mini-Led TV block you can assemble to any size. I have a wall I want to double as a TV. This is way too small.

Just found out that there is no more extended warranty coverage for executive membership either! Did they remove that too???

Definitely not full-array lighting at that price. The side viewing angles are also bad.
It's backlit, not edge lit. Although no local dimming. It has an IPS panel for better off axis angle viewing.

Do I replace my current 75" LG UK6190PUB for this? Mine doesn't have Bluetooth and has TruMotion 120 (Refresh Rate 60Hz). I have a PS5 connected and watch movies occasionally.

HDR maxes out at 296 nits. Non HDR maxes out at 250 nits. In comparison the Samsung QN90A QLED maxes out at 1600 nits, and the best OLED sets around 800. People still complain OLED sets aren't bright enough in a well lit room.

I really wish a store that didn't require a membership would offer something like this. It's exactly what I'm looking for - 80"+ with real 120 HZ refresh rate. It seems the "lower end" big TVs offered by places like Walmart are only 60 HZ.

RTINGS are mixed, really low marks that end up dragging this down for overall rating.

That is for 65" VA version, 86" has IPA and 120hz these ratings does not apply for 86"

IPS means black levels are usually crap, unfortunately, unless you have a large amount of dimming zones.
