I have 2 Jackson's that were made in Japan. I absolutely love them, great quality guitars. Because of my love for Jackson's, I bought my nephew one of these cheaper models above, and out of the box it played like a dream! Great sounding pickups, couldn't believe how nice it played for the money. Fast forward 2 months and the tuners were disintegrating internally, one of the bolts stripped out on the locking nut because of the cheap Chinese steel, and a piece fell off of the bridge. All of those things were fixed by me because I couldn't get the local guitar store to honor the warranty for Jackson because they were bought out. Hopefully that's fixed now too. Not to discourage anyone, just letting you know this is a good guitar for the money, but understand stuff is going to break on it. They are priced that low for a reason. I gave a thumbs up and Repped OP.

100% recommend the hard tail for $199. It's a great sounding guitar with a nice slim neck. I have this exact one tuned to drop C and it screams. The pickups really sound good both high gain and clean. Agree with the other poster that the licensed Floyd Rose bridges on these are mediocre at best and will wear out sooner than later. Hard tail is the way to go with this price range.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank pm11088

Have a 7 string dinky hardtail. Once I changed out the tuning machines for some cheap ToneNinja locking tuners and set it up for 10s, it played amazingly well

I am curious,Will this thing stay reasonably in tune? I've been a student of classical n jazz my entire life. I play it daily. I have some nice instruments. But after seeing Steve Vai, I feel inspired. Will this disappoint?

My son has an older JS32Q DKA HT as a backup to his other guitar with a floyd. It's pretty worn, but plays like a champ. I've offered to get him something newer/better, but he's content to stick with with the JS32. It punches way above it's price point.

Thank you all for suggesting the hardtail. My 10yr old son has been learning guitar on an acoustic (which is all I've ever played) and wants an electric for Christmas. Almost bought one with a Floyd Rose because they look cooler, that would have been a mistake!

I have the J32Q DKA HT in purple. It's my favorite electric (I also own much more expensive electrics) because its 12-16" compound radius neck fits me perfectly comfy low and high on the neck.

The tuners really suck (way, way too much play) and the pickups are too muddy (even by humbucker standards); I had to swap out those items (~$300) to make the guitar playable for me. The guitar is uglier in person than photos (IMHO). So ugly that I'm a bit embarrassed taking it outside the house; but it plays really well so I sometimes do.

I like it enough to want to upgrade to a higher end Jackson, but nobody wants to buy my J32 for $200; so their resale sucks.

So happy to see so many guitar deals back on Slickdeals. We had a bit of a drought there for a while…

As others have said, skip any entry-level guitar with a Floyd Rose or any other trem, you'll regret it.

As for the $199 model without it, I'd like to see a coil split option, but otherwise this is a decent starter guitar.

Thanks. I could always look at the Jem.
