Has PNY ever done a revision to fix the inaccessible drive, SATAFIRM S11 error with this model ? https://linustechtips.com/topic/9...afirm-s11/

I had one drive hit by this. PNY replaced it under warranty.

Thanks for posting this OP Smilie

I may have just received a bad one and in all fairness I had one of these last me for years running Windows 8 (later on I realized my mistake in doing that and how lucky I got Stick Out Tongue ) .. on the other hand another PNY drive ( this exact model ) frequently gave the blue screen of death on my son's Win 8 installation and died within it's 3 year warranty period , no I/O input output for it at all according to Windows... so it's really hit or miss as far as quality. I didn't bother with PNY's warranty since my credit card company kindly refunded me under their extended warranty policy.

For this price point you really can't argue Smilie ... but I definitely wouldn't use it for your Windows/C drive or even for gaming ... more so for a cheap place to store files you really don't care about losing ... for $20 a year if you want to go that route you can pay google for 100 GB of storage and back your files up to google's cloud that way which I would definitely do if you want to store important files on here you care about

You'll definitely pay more for it but the crucial MX 500 series is $68 for a 1 TB size at amazon .... following the advice from the tom's hardware review folks (who have never steered me wrong before) I made a point of replacing all the Win 10 drives in the three desktop PC's myself and my children have and they've been working flawlessly (varying sizes mind you, 1 TB in one desktop, 500 GB in another and 250 GB in the third) for years now

for four years straight the crucial mx500 series has ranked as the best budget drive by tom's hardware reviews and if memory serves me correctly other websites have a favorable view of them too

The DRAM thing is important, definitely improves the performance of the drive and you want a drive that's durable and will take a lot of read/writes too ..
