Nope, this should be $60 or bundled with a b450 for $100. AMD and retailers did us dirty at the lower end in the last 2 years and gatekeeping from upgrading from Zen/Zen+. The 5500 $159 and 4600 $129 didn't make sense at all at their insanely high MSRP. These are $60 and $80 parts.
5500 is a dollar cheaper with similar performance. The 3600 actually comes with a better stock cooler and has PCIe 4.0. Still a hard sell compared to the much better 5600.

The recommended solution is optimal in many ways because not only will you get a performance and efficiency boost, but you're also doing so within a power envelope that is likely lower than your current configuration (so no added stress to your power supply). As a bonus, the Wraith cooler is exceptionally quiet. My own implementation of this CPU/motherboard upgrade was for my own video/projector PC. Do consider that you will have to budget for a RAM upgrade as well.
Don't get this, get the bundle linked somewhere in this thread. You can use the promo code with that to bring it down to 100 ish for this plus mobo combo. Also the 5600 is regularly 120 on sale (I believe it is now) so if you want a standalone cpu get that.

Good luck!

I'm actually happy with this current setup for basic needs but trying to keep it cheap.
