You're good sticking with the 980 if you've already bought it.
That's only my experience, but Samsung is not something I'd worry about. I'd backup frequently regardless of mfg and be much more worried about the crap you see selling at half price (Inland), and or any QLC drives (which I'd never buy)..
I also bought an SK Hynix 2TB P-31 in Sept. and hope I get many years out of it. One never knows so don't get lazy and be prepared....

Not sure if you'd need a separate heat sink or not. This says it comes with a "Low profile graphene aluminum heat spreader" so might be OK without?
