Exactly, this is where they get you. Eufy doesn't require one. Look for 2k resolution on theirs and avoid the extra bill, save enough to buy the latest doorbell every few years.

They're stored on a homebase hub in your house or you can pay them for cloud if you want. Some have storage in the cam if you don't want the home base, they have options. I never have used the cloud storage in the years I've used them for doorbell and additional outdoor cams and it's served me well. You can access the content from anywhere from your phone and download any you want to keep indefinitely. My version holds about a month of vids and I had multiple homebases, but I'm sure there's a newer version with more storage if needed and there was even talk about expandable storage option but I'm not sure of the latest.
