I would suggest going with a Paperwhite or Signature Edition over this. The Paperwhite is $95 and the Signature Edition is $130. The Oasis even at these prices is still overpriced for what it does in comparison. In terms of the Signature Edition vs the Oasis you're paying more mostly for the metal casing and page turn buttons.

After getting a Paperwhite Signature Edition I ended up selling my Oasis.

If only this had USB-C. Battery life is decent but still needs to be charged every week for regular usage. Not a deal breaker but I get tired of finding the micro-usb cable. The page turn buttons are fantastic though.

Kindle Oasis earlier generations had very bad battery last just a couple of days or less. Do they fix the problem?

I have at least five kindles, and my favorite has been Kindle 4, the lightest of all with dedicated buttons to flip the pages. Yes, it doesn't have backlight but I don't really care. I don't need to read in the darkness.
I in fact bought a battery off ebay and replaced it myself when its battery died.

I just searched for Kindle 4 OEM battery and bought from someone with positive feedbacks on the item. It turned out to be working just fine.

I have a previous gen oasis and I'm considering upgrading with the trade in. Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to go through the trade in process to get the 20% off?

I have at least five other kindles floating around, including the paperwhite, and my wife bought me the oasis a couple of months ago. I didn't think I'd like it, but I won't use any of my other kindles anymore. I added a pop socket and this is by far the most comfortable. One handed and never have to move a finger to turn pages.

When I did this last year, I got the trade-in credit and discount immediately. Edit - and by immediately I meant that as soon as I selected and confirmed the trade option they gave it to me right there. I did not have to wait for the device to be shipped in.

I have the Oasis and love it - but as others said buy the new Kindle or wait for the refresh. (if you travel or are around kids - waterproof is the only way to go)

I think this is them getting ready to release the USB-C version of the Oasis. I agree about the Micro, it is the only thing I need to charge with that cable.

Honestly, I'd wait. Not that big of an update and seeing how it is on sale and this is the last eReader that Amazon needs to update, I would expect the update to be released before the end of the year, probably right after Black Friday when they sell as many of the current Oasis they can dump for FB super deal.

Agreed, my old Oasis is getting old and I can't use it at most places to buy or DL books because it has 2.4 Wifi and that is going away. Even the network I run for work has decided to shut off the 2.5GHz wifi.

I'm an Oasis user, and I agree with this. I bought my son the current generation paperwhite. The text displayed on the screen is exactly the same. Even though the Oasis supposedly has a larger screen, in practice this difference isn't just miniscule, it's non-existent. The formfactor is also easier to hold. Tapping the screen vs a physical button isn't that big of a deal.

If I didn't already have an Oasis, I'd be happy with the Paperwhite.
