I bought this exact config for 150 and had to return it, it was super slow and would freeze up for 20 second pretty often. I have an IdeaPad Chromebook with 4gb RAM and that runs so much better

That's terrible. Could it be driver issues or the eMMC I/O performance is just too poor?
Too bad about it being unusable. I have had the Lenovo Intel Celeron version (C4020 I think it was) and it was impressive in terms of usability (Media, android emulation, web browsing). I am going to guess AMD Athlon Gold isn't to that level of accelerator/coding optimization. Its 3x what I pay (I got the Intel one for $90 on clearence).

I think it depends on what you're using it for. For me I'm just using it for browsing (e.g., no apps). With several tabs open (outlook, gmail, slickdeals, etc.) I was able to open new tabs (e.g., CNBC) with page load times under a second. I have not seen the "freeze up" mentioned but again that could be related to using apps. One thing to note is that it ships with a fairly old version of ChromeOS so the first thing I do with any chromebook is update the OS. I'm sure it's slower than a Core i3/i5 but it's also half the cost in a high quality build.

Thanks for the info! I think I will bite the deal if the $150 model comes up again. I already have a real T Series ThinkPad, I'm just looking for a cheap laptop that I can throw in a hotel room. I'm good as long as I can view and backup RAW photos on my DSLR to an external hard drive or upload them to cloud storages. The TrackPoint and build quality are also a plus for me since I'm a ThinkPad user. Otherwise, there are other Chromebooks with better specs at about the same price range.

This thing is a gorgeous horse that can't walk. Really pretty machine but can't even play YouTube without slowing down. Seriously I have a 4 year old Chromebook that was like 100 bucks that is faster than this (Acer 14 or something like that)
