They have been running this offer for a few months now. I looked into it around 4 months ago for my boyfriend's parents, since his dad is a retired police officer. The "free" cruise for heroes is still $98+ for your guest (they do not accept singles, only doubles with at least 1 other companion sailing at $49/night) and another ~$100 in taxes/fees (probably more if you choose a more expensive date). $50/night is a pretty standard rate for low/mid-range cruises of 7+ days, so the only "deal" is that you're getting that rate for a short weekend cruise instead, which usually has a much higher cost/day.
I have no idea what the ship is like or the quality of food or entertainment; the few reviews I found said the ships were old (but in the process of being refurbished) and the buffet was meh at best.
Personally, I think it's an OK deal if you have a "hero" in your family, but otherwise mediocre at best.
