Seeing some of the comments here it's clear Blinkist has done a bad job over the years marketing this. I like it and I've had it for a couple years but it's clear people don't understand what their service is still.

It's not like Audible or Kindle. The primary service here is condensed summaries of many books, particularly self-help, philosophy, psychology, social science, etc. Pretty much any book where you want the knowledge and key points but can't devote the time to reading it all or you want to decide if you want to read it later.

Here's an example: I work in higher ed and everyone talks about "growth mindset" these days (in an almost cult-like manner) and I wanted to know now just what it is but read the book that this concept came from and get a more informed idea of it. But I also don't want to spend 10 hours reading the book to see its merits. Blinkist has 'blinks' which are the key points and summaries of the book (both in text and narration) where I can get the gist of the book (almost as if I read it myself) in a less than 10 minute series of blinks.

It's more of an app for learning.
Agreed. This service has changed over the years, and copyright law has affected their ability to innovate now that they've grown large enough to be a concern for the major reading and audio service players. I have gone through hundreds of sets of Blinks and guarantee that if you really want to learn, you don't use this. It's a familiarity service, not a true learning platform. It's not worth using - even free - unless your PRIMARY goal is to become LIGHTLY familiar with a book. An example would be someone asking you, "Have you read Good to Great," and you respond "No, but I'm familiar with some of the concepts, like the hedgehog principle." If the conversation about the principles and application progresses, you will not be able to hang without reading the book or having prior knowledge. Having a perfect memory will also help you extract value, because the idea-flesh from most books won't exist in the blink. The reason many of these nonfiction books are filled with contextual stories and allegories is due to the abstraction challenge of complex ideas. They're pedagogical devices - in this case conduits - for making the author's/researcher's points stick or to better unfold their effects. I had the service for about 3 years, paying double this deal. I continued to hope it would improve in the Shortform direction after SF started competing against them on YouTube with other learning hack influencers. It sounds like it hasn't. Unfortunate. I still get their emails and I've been tempted to bite. But I just think about how much more I learn and can immediately apply with full books and audiobooks that it reduces the draw. But, this is Slickdeals, and so I'll probably purchase it soon...
Thanks OP! Here's another great resource for book summaries:

Do the titles change often? I like reading, especially in terms of examples provided in context, so not sure if these are similar

Literally just signed up for 60% off on the 17th... Only difference is mine is 39.99 forever, so even on renewal... Still thinking of cancelling and resubscribing at this price...

Looks like it's an audio book service that has shortened audio to sum up the main ideas of non-fiction self help and business books.

Well worth it for mainly non-fiction development type books. I use public transportation and I love learning however sometimes have a difficult time getting into a book. Or even worse spending a significant time in a book that took hours and yet only provided 10 minutes of actually value. The only thing that I've found that is better than Blinkist in summarizing is Shortform but it is far too expensive at $25 per month and does not have the collection that Blinkist does. These summaries or Blinks are only typically 10-15 minutes each and you would be surprised what you can gain from them. The ones that stand out to me often have me then go and get the audible and/or kindle to further dive into them after I've heard a very compelling summary on Blinkist. Great find

I'm in the same boat and my subscription expires in April. I am thinking of signing up with another email and eat the loss on the older subscription.
