It is not open unless you remove the walls. You can leave it fully enclosed as desired. Some walls are set up for quick removal.

This is a great deal for this set. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more traction. I really wonder how many people were turned off by the huge price jumps Lego enforced.

It's funny that the first time the set goes on sale is after a completely ridiculous $50 price increase.
